How I did it: My older sister wanted to do it and my parents promised that since they were sending her they'd send me when I reached her age at the time. So when I was sixteen I went on a two week white water canoeing / rock climbing course in Maine and it was one of the most terrifying, exhilarating, painful, AMAZING times of my life.
Lessons & tips: It's a real challenge, but totally worth it. Don't do it if you're not really into physical activity or if you don't think you could live for an extended period of time without a shower. Honestly, though, you don't really notice the smell on yourself or anyone else. You're too busy working on the task at hand or learning some new skill or dropping exhausted into your sleeping bag at the end of the day.

I’m 17 and I completed a 15 day white water rafting/rock climbing course in the summer of ‘06. I can easily say that it was the single most important/exciting/difficult two weeks of my life, but i would not trade my experiance for the world.
my advice for anyone interested would be to pick a trip 15 days or longer. the time flys by.
feel free to ask any questions.
I want to do a program so badly! The only catch is the expense. The program I’m interested in for this spring is $1200, & I’m guessing that does not include airfare. Does anyone know anything about their scholarship programs?
Otherwise I spose I’ll just apply for a credit card with a high limit, and pay little by little to get to go.
Harsh but one of the most awesome experiences of my life (and I’ve had a lot of awesome experiences). 21 days of challenges, physical, mental, emotional. JUST BRILLIANT. Everybody should do it.
& in NZ if you can, cause it’s arguably one of the most stunning places in the world to do this.
In fact, I am so inspired by thinking about it that I’m going to do it again… (well this time it’s the 21-day masters).
I just signed up to do it again when I go back to New Zealand. It is a gorgeous place to do it. How exciting.
No idea how I’m paying for it: But that will be fine. I’m making a stand for it happening. So it will.

so im probably going to do a 22 day course this summer.. i am really excited. i think it will teach a lot, and put things in perspective. yeeyeeee
i’ve been involved with outward bound for as long as i can remember, but i haven’t been on a course yet. ideally i’d love to go to colorado to do a course… or maine.
oh, and FYI: hurricane island doesn’t exist anymore. there’s been restructuring of the organization and those courses are under OB wilderness.
Barbara is back to her normal self is getting ready for a new fridge!
My bil and sil were Outward Bound instructors and I’ve always wanted to take a course at Hurricane Island. Someday…
3 weeks north carolina, 14 years old.
It was a crazy experience. 3 weeks without a shower. It had mostly downs, but I learned a lot from it. It was definately tough but worth it.
Tropicana Hana Has become a RADIANT RED HEAD and looks so good ♡
In my public speaking class we had to create a speech on some adventure in our life. I remember one woman’s speech was about her experience at an outward bound wilderness camp and how it changed her life around.
I want to do this because I want to prove that I’m not just a helpless materialistc yuppish girly-girl of the overwhelmingly modern world I’m always stereotyped as.
I want to also change my life around I hate being the ‘girly girl’ who will ‘break a nail, split her ends and wrinkly her skirt’ ARGHHH!
I’m a lot stronger than everyone gives me credit for.
