ed has now added a blog to UnbrokenSilence with the first write-up on the topic of smartphones and how the area still holds so much for the future. The latest blog is about productivity and although centered around programmers it holds true for many different activities where concentration is key. They are short and to the point, but definitely deserve a peek. Leave a comment and maybe make a suggestion for an upcoming blog topic. Thanks for looking!

Project Buffalo is now up on the Unbroken Silence website. It is a sweet little news reader that tells you which stories from the day’s BBC News Feed are good and which ones are bad by colour coding them. It is brand new and still learning so there are a few stories that may seem improperly coded, but it isn’t completely finished yet. Check it out!
Don’t forget to visit the main page of Unbroken Silence for the new Picks of the Week and a game of Hangmax!

Finally a mini-update on the site which includes new picks of the week (a toaster that has been “modded” in to a working Super Nintendo just to mention one) and the brief mention of a upcoming project with the code name “Buffalo”. So come on over and visit at www.unbrokensilence.com and keep checking back for new items.
P.S. – Hangmax is still on the homepage for anyone looking to waste a bit of time.

I thought it worth mentioning that aside from playing Hangmax or spinning the virtual Dreidel there is one other feature on ed’s site that might be of interest to the average joe. With the new look he has added a column with Sites of the Week where he features 5 items he came across online in the past for the week ahead. Last week there was a link for Wikipedia’s list of problems solved by MacGyver. This week there are some great ones like an upcoming GPS unit based on Knight Rider’s KITT (so cool!). You’ll have to visit UnbrokenSilence.com to check out the other 4, but they’re worth the trip and maybe worth coming back next week to see what ed’s found.

new look...

It’s been a long time coming, but ed finally changed the look of the site from plain white. I think it looks cool and all of the fun things are still on the site. Check it out at Unbroken Silence.

ed spent the last week or so updating Hangmax. It now goes through all of the words in the word bank before repeating them, you get more tries at guessing letters, and the animation is new. Go on over to UnbrokenSilence.com and play a few rounds. It’s a great time waster. Don’t forget to check out The Itemizer on GOOGLE. I’ve loaded most of my books and DVDs on mine and it’s great. Like iTunes for everything, well organising-wise not playing.

The Itemizer
If you’ve been to Unbroken Silence lately you may have already read about this new application, but for those of you who haven’t…
ed has made a program that is available to anyone with a Google account called The Itemizer. It is an online cataloguing application for keeping track of your dvds, cds, books, or any other collection you may have. It is easy to use and you can sort the collection by any of the main headings, otherwise it is alphabetical by Title, and it has a search bar for those of us with very long lists. You can get started at
The Itemizer. I think it is a good time waster, but also has practical applications like keeping a list of your belongings for insurance purposes (although ed is not convinced). Anyway, it’s a good way to keep track of stuff in your house and you could put *s or initials next to things you’ve loaned out. If only it had a search and locate function for those times when we misplace books or the like around the house.

Ed has been busy learning to program using Flash and has just launched his own version of hangman called HANGMAX. It is in its very beginning stages (only 25 words to guess and not yet categorised), but all of the basics are there.
You get five guesses for the word before you lose the round and with each incorrect guess part of the gallows appear. Each correct word earns you points which you then lose if your next attempt is a failure. It’s harder to guess without a category given, but still fun and a way to waste a bit of time online.
The dreidel game made for me has not gone down well with his family, but only because they can’t see the point of it. I think it’s fun and will use it in lieu of a regular dreidel when I play with my friends. I think the game is highly under-rated and should not just be for Hanukkah.
Anyway, if you want to check out Hangmax it is featured under Other Geekery on the main page of the site.
Visit Unbroken Silence and have a go or click on the Java link near the top to try the dreidel game. Previous issues that caused it to be unavailable for some visitors have been taken care of.
The site still needs a lot of work, but big things are on the way including a quantitive decision maker and a home media cataloguing program.
