Reviewing this Goal for 2010: 5 days ago

Ah – back to regular paychecks, back to going to Katzingers – soon! Probably in 2010.

Hey – you gotta save money when you don’t know what’s what.

    This goal stays!

#29: Jeff's Soaring Super Sandwich 7 months ago

It’s been a while! We’ve been trying to save cash, and eating out was something we did cut back on, so this goal was dormant for a while. Not that Katzinger’s was super-expensive, but we would buy a lot of extras when we went (bread, cheese, salami, chocolate bars, etc.). We went today and got a sandwich and a side of sauerkraut balls. Good stuff.

Jeff’s Soaring Super Sandwich is a nice simple affair – Hot Corned Beef, Hot Pastrami, Swiss Cheese, Hot Mustard on Rye. Since Katzinger’s makes their own, the Corned Beef and Pastrami aren’t too fatty and are really good. We split a large between the two of us.

The sauerkraut balls were okay – not as good as the ones that they have at Barley’s Smokehouse, though.

    The Rueben! 14 months ago

Oh, yeah, I’ve had this before. But I needed a picture! Behold the Katzinger’s Rueben that is Hot Corned Beef, Swiss Cheese, Imported Sauerkraut, Russian Dressing on hand-sliced Jewish rye grilled to perfection. (Their words, but they don’t lie!)

The great thing about Katzinger’s is that they make their own corned beef on site. This is fantastic stuff – and something that’s crazy easy to do. So much so that none of your delis should ever look you in the eye and tell you that it’s okay that they order corned beef from a “supplier” of some sort. You should always get the real deal.

MMMMM…Rueben. Again – oily stuff is “nutrition.” Please, go with me on this.

    Katzinger's Again! 15 months ago

This weekend Husband and I went for the #76 – Mike and Rich follow the Bubble -

Capicola, soppresatta, provolone, lettuce, roasted red pepper, herbed oil served on a warm baguette

Again, the oily spots are nutrition. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Of course, said nutrition upped my water intake considerably for the day, but it was worth it.

Back to K's Today 15 months ago

Went to the Vegetarian side of the Menu (I know, crazy!). We had #71 – Good Enough for Jan to Paint -

Cave aged Gruyere, sweet onion, tomato, dijon mustard grilled on hand-sliced Farm Bread

Consider this grilled cheese for grownups. In the photo, you may notice something greasy – that’s nutrition. At least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Katzinger's Day Again 16 months ago

Today was #51 – Cousin Barbara’s Balancing Act

Grilled chicken breast marinated in balsamic vinegar and Honeycup mustard, Vermont white cheddar, lettuce, Spicy peppers in oil, grilled on hand-sliced rye with a side of sour cream.

Excellent – unfortunately, the lighting in the kitchen wasn’t cooperating today, so photo isn’t the best. If you squint, you can see the to-go package of sour cream which is just what you need to cut the spicy peppers a bit.

On deli-GREAT-news, they had my pepper salami back in stock this time (they were out last time, so I had none!). =)

That day again! 16 months ago

Tried Becker’s Belt ‘Em. In general, it was good, but I think I have a hard time getting behind egg salad. I don’t know why – it doesn’t taste bad to me, but it’s not spectacular either. My theory that bacon makes everything better proved true, though. =)

    Their description:

The best egg salad in town, Applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, Hellman’s mayonnaise on rye.

It was Katzinger's Day! 17 months ago

    We had the #34 – Neal’s Let’s Make a Meal

Roast Beef, Hot Brisket, Vermont Cheddar, Cole Slaw, Russian Dressing grilled on Jewish Rye

If it sounds familiar, it’s close to Gene’s Free Lunch – only Gene uses Corned instead of Roast Beef, Swiss Cheese and Pumpernickle – Gene also doesn’t gill. We really love this deli.

Maybe they’re not so similar – but I’m sure Gene and Neal were buddies.
    =)

Another new one... 17 months ago

Another one on the list both of us hadn’t tried before – Mom & Granny’s Harbor Hero.

Homemade Chicken Salad, Muenster Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato on a Croissant

Their chicken salad is something else. Moist without drowning in mayo, still tastes like chicken and lovely chunks of celery to make it a bit crunchy. Plus, one of the best things ever – croissant.

My turn again! 18 months ago

Went with one we hadn’t had before – the #17 Steve’s Cross Currants:

Hot corned Beef, chopped chicken Liver, Swiss cheese, Cole Slaw, Russian Dressing on hand-sliced Jewish Rye.

Good stuff – very filling! Updated List of Bests as well with a photo and description. Someday, I’m going to find the spot in my kitchen with ideal sandwich lighting.
