it’ll have probably 120” screen, 5.1 sound, home theater pc, nice seats etc. 10 months ago

There are so many variants to consider when piecing together a home theater system that it can be overwhelming. There is also a lot of technical information thrown your way and it isn’t easy to separate the technobabble from the pretinent information. Having spent hours researching what exactly all the numbers mean and hearing so many viewpoints, all I can say for certain are to do these things when building your home theater:
- Go and listen to the speakers themselves (most important thing to learn)
- The receiver will subtly influence the sound and may or may not be perceptible by you, just make sure if has enough wattage to suffice your speakers or you may fry your amp (the engine that runs the receiver)
- Go into it with a clear budget in mind and don’t deviate. Things get expensive quick in the audio world and there’s no reason to go into massive debt because then you won’t be enjoying your home theater system while riddled with debt stress. Build it in stages if you have to, it’s what I did.
- There are a lot of debate on what wiring to get. My advice? Get 12 gauge wire. It’ll suffice in almost all occasions and can be bought for only a couple pennies a foot more compared to other cable sizes (make sure to buy online, though). 12 months ago

We built one into our basement after a remodel. The contractors left us a blank room and I did the rest. All the wiring, equipment choice, etc.
We use it all the time and hardly ever go to the movies anymore. 5 years ago

It’s easy to spend your whole paycheck on high-end shit, but for most people, a budget system is enough. Most of all, don’t spend out the ass for Monster interconnect cables…. Splurging on fatter guage speaker wire might make a difference though.
My setup consists of:
Sources:
Panasonic S77 DVD Player
iPod
Video:
Panasonic AE-700 LCD High-Def Projector
Audio:
L/R: Axiom Audio m22
Center: Axiom Audio M3
Surrounds: Axiom Audio QS8
Receiver:
Onkyo TX-SR602 6.1
...and I couldn’t be happier…well, maybe a little. 5 years ago
