I want my own car, a few years ago the parents took out a loan for me (not cosigned) and I diligently made my payments for about 85% of the 14k balance as well as the regular maintenance, insurance, fuel etc. then no car – not in my name and that really sucked at 20 years old. So I am hoping to buy an older classic car with personality, something I would enjoy working on, getting my hands dirty, smoothing out the edges and most importantly having something nice in my own name.

How I did it: I've had cars before that were only under my parents names but I drove. I have acquired a few credit cards over the years and with that a lot of debt but I've always been good at making payments on time and therefore I have really good credit. I totaled my corolla in 2007 (parents bought for me) and have been devastated ever since. I wanted a car to call my own but i've always had to share and when I moved home my only options were a 1993… Read how I did it…

How I did it: i started shopping around on the internet mostly (a while in advance), checking out prices and comparing the average price for what i was looking for. i decided on a small auto, preferably with a hatchback. i wanted to get it a bit before i got my license so i could learn on it a bit more and eventually take my test in it. mum and i went browsing and i fell in love with the first one i saw. i am now a proud owner of a 1996 daihatsu chara… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I went on a lot of car websites and looked at the cars that I could afford and had them send me brochures about them. Then I spent a lot of time reading over them, and looking online for more information and reviews. I saw in the paper that one company was having a sale on a small-car that fit what I wanted and was below my price range, so I test drove it and fell in love! I already had saved up enough for a down payment and signed the pa… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I completed my Masters and upon completion my Dad helped me put a down payment on a new vehicle! I have a very small percentage on loan and am paying it off monthly. I put the down payment towards the car and not towards my student loan as the the student loan is with the government and there is more leeway with payments. Car loans have less leeway and get expensive WAY too fast. Read how I did it…

How I did it: My dad and I went shopping in Truro, NS. We went to I don't know how many places looking, until we ended up at Blaikies Dodge Chrysler. I saw this 2003 Ford Focus LX and I just knew that it was the car for me. Read how I did it…

I would love it if one day in the near future I can buy my own car. That’d be a great way to show people that I can do it on my own.

I guess the title says enough. I’ll probably get my P’s in September and I’d like to have something of my own to drive. Something I can stick tacky bumper stickers on and vacuum and clean until my heart’s content. The job should probably come first though.. haha
Buying my own car was so worth it! I bought a 96 comaro with a convertible for a very good price. It makes you feel accomplished ;)

I went to Boot Camp. Washed out after 9 weeks. Got my paycheck. Bought a car. A little Renault for $500 cash. No reverse, no emergency brake, but it worked. I was even able to deliver pizzas for Pizza Hut for several months. Got a new battery installed by a friend of a co-worker and it was done wrong. The belt kept slicing wires, causing fuses to blow. Eventually the engine caught fire and I had to ditch it.
But I bought a car!!
It’s been a long and tedious road from my place to work, but now I’m going to be doing it in my own car, which will save me time, energy and, yes, money!
The car itself is non brilliant. An old Hyundai Accent with too much mileage for its own good and a rusty mechanic, but it runs smoothly and it’s had a few repairs recently, so all that had to go wrong already did and the engine is still good. I didn’t pay much and it’s only until I can get something better, but still, it’s a nice improvement on my bus card… And I can finally go see my friends on my own!
