(since they refer to the Kennedy home in Hyannis as the Kennedy Compound, I wonder if the needlepoint in the kitchen reads “Compound Sweet Compound”)

It is being reported today that the Senator is being released from hospital today. While the prognosis is not good, a Kennedy surrounded by Kennedys will perhaps great ah-ha moments that will continue the great works of our Royal Family for generations to come.

Let’s not forget how Edward was the surrogate father to the children of his brothers. The children of John, Robert, and Edward have carried on the works of the family in ways that they never could have been by just those three.

Whether its the Hudson Riverkeepers, Special Olympics, the brilliant constitutional dialogues of Caroline Kennedy, the brilliant magazine “George” by John Jr – the Kennedys have seem to have taken those early American phrases about life, libery and the persuit of happiness to heart; they have embodied “all men are created equal” beyond just lip service and put their ideas into action.

As the blessed Senator goes home, I cannot even imagine how his children, and their children, and his neices and nephews will be inspired to champion the American Dream for everyone.

Godspeed Mr Senator.

Senator Edward Kennedy - Teddy to his admirers 18 months ago

Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you got …

It’s strange how, when a crisis befalls someone, we only then become aware of how truly great they are. For many Americans, the senior Senator from Massachusetts is such a person. Known by much of the younger generations as the younger brother of two of the greatest Americans to ever live, and as a punchline to many others, Ted Kennedy’s stature and character far exceeds most elected officials.

Labled a “liberal” by the pundits of talk radio, Senator Kennedy made no apologies for bringing his beliefs, values, and moral to the halls of Congress. A champion of the American dream, Kennedy fought for an increase in the Federal Minimum Wage, stating “Passing this wage hike represents a small, but necessary step to help lift America’s working poor out of the ditches of poverty and onto the road toward economic prosperity”. His love of helping people achieve the American Dream is also shown in his support for financial support and programs for the nation’s students.

Taking hold of the torch that was passed to him by his brothers, Senator Kennedy has fought hard to break those barriers that instituationalized racism and ethnic divisions. His legislative record on the environment definitly sounds as if he takes the words of “This land is your land, this land is my land” to heart – but with the “your” meaning future generations of Americans.

It is in a time of trial like this, one in which many media reports detail his accomplishments, that we realize not only what he has done for America, but how much more we need of him.

Godspeed humble servant of the people!
