got all my qualifications:
Responsible Service of Alcohol, Responsible Conduct of Gambling
and a few extra skills: function service, espresso machine abilities, gaming machine attendant…even work experience at an extremely busy and popular hotel for three nights.
and well now i am aiming at working in the rsl down the road from my house.
see i want to work in a club, but…i dont have my Provisional license yet…so I cant really catch a train home by myself at 1 in the morning…thats asking for rape.
so…my goal at the moment is to work extremely local to keep safe, until i have a license and am able to safely travel :)

i am currently at TAFE [technical and further education..in australia]
doing a course which includes RSA, RCG and Barista also including trade knowledge of this industry and dealing with customers.
it has been m first week of this course
and holy crap its hard!!
i have never had a proper full-on job…so learning so much hands on is a little difficult.
this week we have learnt or had a go at:
trying to pour a beer from the tap [properly]
carrying full glasses on a tray
how to set out cutlery, professionally
how to shake a cocktail mixer [with the american shaker]
pouring from the ‘fast pour’ on the top of bottles
mixing a bourbon and coke from the bottles on the rack with the nip measurer
and i think thats about it.
to each lesson we have had to wear what you would if you were working-black polo shirt, black pants, black closed in shoes.
for the practical lessons they make me remove my piercings :( and tie my hair up.
i put a tiny stud in my nose.
i had to remove the one from my eyebrow, 4 from my ears.
i felt so naked.
but theres no way in hell im removing my nose piercing.
anyways im tired and learning all this stuff is a little daunting and overwhelming..but i just have to keep to it.
the picture is of a spirit called ‘glacier ice’ in german.
you light the alcohol on fire to lower the alcohol content.

Totally worth it, it gives you opportunity to work any where in the world when you have bar skills. It made me a more confidant person and a lot more able to deal with people. Drunk or otherwise

Be Very Afraid

Some (almost all) bars are just a nightmare waiting to happen. If you’re female you will be viewed as an object, groped and sometimes threatened. If this is your chosen line of work be very careful, bad things still happen to good people.

working in a bar…wouldn’t trade the experience for anything else. if you don’t know if you should try (like me) then just close your eyes and go for it, you won’t regret.

Sometimes it’s worth it… sometimes it’s not. There are good and bad bar jobs out there. If you come across a bad one, don’t let it put you off the industry altogether.
