Gahhh  — 2 years ago

Just got back from more camping, in Dorset. It blew a gale and pissed down for 2 days. Still, at least I got the camper cliche of “putting the tent up in a howling gale” out of the way.

New Forest!  — 2 years ago

Got back from camping in the New Forest over the Easter holiday – it was great fun, and for the first time I wasn’t cold at night! Mind you, that may have been due to the two of everything I was wearing, plus thermal liner, sleeping bag, hot water bottle and three blankets (it’s cold out there in April!)
I thought the fact that it was early in the year and a bit chilly would keep most people away, but it seems we’re a nation of masochists here in the UK, because the site was absolutely jammed. We’re probably going again later in the year, when it warms up a bit. Meanwhile I’m trying to persuade my best friend to go camping in August, but her girlfriend seems to be being a bit boring about it (who invited her anyway?!)

A Kid And In College  — 2 years ago

Worth doing!

When I was a kid, in college, and even in my 20s, I loved to go camping, hiking, fishing. Now in my 30s, I just haven’t done those things. I began having kids, life got busy, and my husband isn’t the hiking, camping type. Well, we’ll see as the kids get older. I love doing this stuff. Can you believe my husband has NEVER been camping?

Harbour walk  — 2 years ago

I did the harbour walk (I can’t really call it a hike) in about 50 minutes! It was a good one, as I was just starting to hurt when the walk was coming to an end – so I didn’t push myself too hard. Got to plan the next walk now!

This Sunday...  — 2 years ago

I’m gonna go for a hike around the harbour. Probably about 3 miles, which isn’t bad, and there is a little amusement arcade I like to play in. K is role-playing. I don’t see the appeal of pretending to be a balrog for the day, so I don’t participate…

K didn’t go to see her sis until 4pm yesterday, and by then it was too late to go walking, so we both went today. Got 3 miles into a 7 mile trek before K started feeling rotten – bad knees, cold coming on, hungry, cold, etc. So we broke off and got a cab back from Pyecombe. Still, 3 miles isn’t bad to start with (and I must admit my feet were aching a bit after that). I’ll try and come up with something maybe 3.5 – 4 miles for next week…

I love hiking – it’s cheap!

I’ve already booked for us to go camping this Easter, but K is off to see her sister this Saturday, so I want to find something more interesting to do than sit playing on the computer. I’ve printed off a couple of walks, one at Seven Sisters, one a bit nearer in North Brighton, so hopefully I’ll give one of those a go.
