In order for me to get into the NYPD or any law enforcement agency (and do field work) I need to have my vision corrected. Glasses and contact lenses aren’t good enough, because these agencies test your vision with AND without corrective lenses. Without any corrective lenses, my eyes as they are now cannot pass the minimum requirements.

So, I have to get laser eye surgery. LASEK, to be specific. However, this will cost me about $4000+ and I don’t have that money right now. So I obviously have to get a job. So:

    Step 1: Get a job.
Step 2: Get a free consultation with a laser eye surgeon to ask for rates, pre-op preparations, and post-op regimens.
I have to schedule the operation for when it won’t conflict with my work or school.
The recovery itself can take about a month.
Step 3: If possible, re-apply for the CADET program.
Step 4: Take the NYPD recruitment test.

I managed to get in touch with my former boss from the MTA. It was nice to see her again, and I’m glad that she’s pretty much ok. She was a great person to work for, and it’s too bad there aren’t any openings there any more.
So I got the letter of recommendation from her, as well as her contact info. I can wait a little longer to find my other former employers. I should update my resume now.

This is definitely a long-term goal, as I still have a lot to do before I can start working in an agency full-time. For one thing, I’m not 21 yet. I will be by the end of this year though.

I enjoy helping people and doing what I can to make the world at least a little bit nicer. I also can’t stand having a desk job, which is actually why I wanted to become a cop. However, I was medically disqualified from the NYPD due to my poor vision. So right now, I’m looking into other agencies where I can work as a law enforcement officer. If my vision becomes a problem again, I’m going to look into having laser eye surgery as a last resort.

My work experience is pretty limited, as I’ve only had two jobs my whole life and both of them were just summer internships. So right now, as of this moment I just want to work on improving my resume, give it a little more flare. I’ll start off by getting letters of recommendations from my previous employers as well as their contact info. I can’t believe I was dumb enough back then to not get it when I had the chance, but oh well. Live and learn.

After having gone through the FBI website, I learned that they offer paid internships and volunteer internships. The paid one requires you to stay in Washington D.C. for one summer, and the pay comes to about $6,300 for the whole summer. The volunteer internship requires that I work in the city. I’m willing to take either one for next summer.
