I have been doing this diploma course for some time now and have decided that after all the mucking around that being a counsellor is what I want to do.
I have been teaching 14-19 year olds for 3 years and have decided to go into counselling. I will be enrolling on the Level 3 course in Sept 09.
Can anyone tell me where I can get some experience (preferably for this age group)?
I want to become a very effective counselor. I have the patience and drive and willingness to have a baptism by fire situation, as much knowledge as I bring from my college course, it will only really come into effect when put in that position of power! First – telephone counselling of people with mental health and addictions.. Then – build skills and focus talents.
I want to become a counsellor so I can help people. I have always wanted to do this. I will reach this one day
i wanna become a counsellor to help others to sovle their problems.
I was a counselor in a drug rehab. Wow, talk about draining; it was really hard. But in the end, it had different rewards than money (and you sure don’t make money in some places). I only lasted 4 years; and that was because I lived where I worked: no escape! I think people that give their lives to help others are the most unselfish, giving poeple in the world; even though I myself do not have it in me to do it anymore. My advice? Do not set too high expectations for yourself, people are very hard to please == make sure your motives are right.
At the moment I’m studying towards my certificate level counselling qualification. It’s all fairly easy and I won’t have any problem qualifying. The harder bit is actually doing the stuff.
