How I did it: Found a pole dancing centre near where I lived, called them and asked them about times and prices, booked in to a beginners class and started going once a week. You'll usually find that courses tend to range from 6 - 10 weeks, depending on the centre.
Lessons & tips: If possible, get a couple of your friends or sisters or someone like that to do the classes with you. That way you have someone to have a laugh with and it makes it a bit more fun. If possible, get a pole for your home, so that you can practise and improve your tricks during your free time. Don't be discouraged if you start a course and you struggle to do the tricks. As with anything, it takes time to learn how to do them properly. I couldn't do any of the tricks in my first couple of classes, but by the end of the six weeks, I was able to execute them well and with considerable ease. There's nothing better than realising that you can finally do something that you have been struggling to do.
Resources: The internet was a great resource for finding a pole dancing centre near where I lived. The x-pole is a great pole to use at home as it doesn't need to be screwed in and is fully portable.

courtknee is working
I am taking classes, and I can do a few moves, but I want to pole dance well. So far I can do a backspin, hold and stick, and a few basic moves, but I would really like to perfect the elevator, airplane, fan curl and pinwheel. It’s a fun class and its hard, but its good exercise!
No, I don’t want to be a stripper, pole dancing and stripping aren’t the same thing…theres no clothes coming off in pole dancing classes!
That sucks. I forgot about this goal. I lost a lot of weight over the last 2 yrs and now since Aug of ‘08 I have been gaining weight most ive Ever weighed and im expecting my third child. I hope others dont forget about their goals n fun things they would like to experience in life before they die.
Try a new activity and tone up my body in the process – be more sexually confident with my body
hi im moving to edmonton and i want to know where and how much its gonna cost me to take a pole dancing lesson….bcuz maybe later in life it might come in handy
I really want to mantain my health by doing something that will make me feel more confident and keep my body in shape. I like my body now but I would want my stomach to be toned abs are optional, just want it flat. Briefly in my youth I enjoyed gymnastics and I think this is up my alley. In case anyone’s wondering, I don’t plan on becoming a stripper or for that matter ever showing people what I’m doing. This is just a private activity I wish to persue without being judged. My first hurdle is saving up the money for the blasted pole…
herenion wheeeeee
This really goes hand in hand with my “get down to 70 kilo’s” goal. I figure pole dancing will be something I’d enjoy, and its a sexy, fun (I assume) sport!
I really don’t think I am fit enough to do this.. yet, but oh well.. we shall see! My only main problem is trying to find a place to take lessons in my town.. I might have to travel up to Wollongong (an hour away) to do it. I might have to research that..
I think when I find a place, I might wait until I am down to 90 kilos before I begin lessons. kind of like a reward :)
We’ll see!
I started dancing in my early 40s and taught myself at home. I’m now 48 and not only manage my own school but have had incredible opportunities to meet people around the world.
I have studends over 200 pounds, up to 68 years old, and many with no dance or athletic background whatsoever.
It’s more about a state of mind than it is about physical strength. That feeling you get after a couple of drinks (JUST one or two!) and you loosen up on the dance floor?
Well you learn to get there in pole dancing WITHOUT the alcohol. Infact, you should NEVER drink and pole dance. You learn to let go and enjoy the movement.
Agility comes with practice. Advanced pole work will require more strength some of which comes simply by practicing the pole moves themselves.
Anyone can do this but don’t expect too much from yourself early on – give it a little time and keep at it and you’ll find your comfort zone and style.
I guess it was only worth doing because occasionally it occurs to me that my lover isn’t missing anything by staying at home with me….
