I’m getting a piano delivered Saturday. Nothing fancy, just an old upright that’s been in the family a while. It’s been a while since I’ve really been focused on my practicing, so I’m looking forward to being able to play on a real piano. I’m learning the Debussy preludes right now on an Alesis QS8, but it just isn’t the same as a piano.

Music, music, music
I played pretty good piano early on
Never made the big time, but did a lot of performing with bands, recording in studio projects, and playing at home for my own enjoyment
I want to have a second career performing professionally. I want to play concert piano because I am tired of lugging electronic keyboards and amps around (plus I am getting too old for all that clubbing).
I had lessons, but departed from them and the result was I learned a lot of technique WRONG
Ugh – that means relearning. But I really want to have the excitement of learning works by all the great composers, and of performing them with other professional musicians.
I have not decided when to start lessons again – they will have to be balanced with my other goals. Why, oh why do we have to WORK for a living???

I haven’t played piano seriously for about 8 years- sports became my focus in high school and college- but I’ve started getting back into practice mode with a little Mussorgsky. Obviously it will be a while before I hit “concert pianist” status, but it can’t hurt to dream big. :) All I know is that it is absolutely wonderful to be back at the ivories again.
