I dress nice most of the time and wear skirts and heels a lot, but it’s been a long time since I got all dressed up. I loved how I looked and felt at my proms, friends’ weddings, college formals, but I haven’t had a reason to get all glammed up in a while other than clubbing, but clubbing is a different kind of dressing up. While wearing tight tops and short skirts is sexy, it’s not very classy or glamourous. In high school and college, every 3-4 months we had some formal event. I haven’t even worn a formal dress in over a year now.
How to dress up more often
How I did it: Earlier this summer, when the ex wasn't the ex, he told me he'd prefer not to see what was behind behind the mirrored doors of my wardrobe. It's contents were a mystery and he wanted to keep it that way. I liked the way he said it because that's how I have started to look at it - a huge dressing up box!
I developed a knack at an early age when buying new clothes that they would miraculously compliment clothes I had already had. I just needed confidence to make more of an effort but have it look like it wasn't a conscious effort or that I was trying too hard.
Lessons & tips: Two tips have helped along the way:
Don't keep things for best - you'll end up with things you never wear! I've got a pair of silk wide leg trousers that I've worn more in the past two months than the entire two years I've had them.
Make the effort - if you can look in the mirror before you leave the house and smile at your reflection, you've cracked it!
Resources: A pair of earrings, an unusual belt or a necklace look like you've thought a lot more about what you're wearing. When someone compliments you on your necklace - that it compliments your top for instance - it gives you a huge boost.

I can do the smart casual look quite well I think but because I don’t go out to posh parties that often, I don’t have a wardrobe full of party dresses. Put me in a party dress and I feel uncomfortable because I’m not used to it. How do other women do it???
