I plan to return to Berlin later this year which will really further my progress with this goal.
I did purchase Rosetta Stone software which seems useful when I use it…. :(

How I did it: in my school they offered german classes, so i just chose to take german as well as french. doing both languages was difficult but worth it as now i have 3 i can speak at least basically. i had some really bad classes though, so i'd recommend maybe learning at a college where people have chosen to be there Read how I did it…

I just started mein Dutschkurs and I am eager to learn
I’m working on this again. After almost a year in Germany, I haven’t improved spontaneously in the way I’d hoped. I can read – I particularly like reading teenage girl thriller novels, who knew? – but I can still barely speak.
So I just started a course at the Volkshochschule around the corner. It’s four weeks of four hours, four days a week. I’m intending to work at night to make up for taking such a large chunk out of my work day. Yesterday I was sick though, so I barely made it to class.
It’s pretty good. The class is not that big (maybe twenty?) and at the price – only €110! – I would be happy with bad. It’s a little bit slow – I was placed in A1.2 just to show how little I’ve progressed – but I guess I’ll learn without trying too hard, and unfortunately there’s no quick way to progress.
Rebecca is slowly starting some things on my list
I got started, have the tools, now to learn.
living in germany, i’ve picked up some words, yet i’m not confident in speaking with the locals, so i usually ask “spreachen sie englisch?” or struggle to understand what they say in german.
To be able to speak German has always been a dream of mine, however just recently I found a site called livemocha.com It allows you to learn German! Since the hubby is in the army, there is always that chance we could end up in Germany since we have several bases and installations over there! It would be useful to learn at least a bit of German so I can communicate effectively if I need to go off base and the people I run into cannot speak English.

I just had a telephone call all in German (about my internet connection). I had to give my birthdate, customer number, address, etc. Just like the things I’ve practised in class, but it made me so nervous. My heartrate’s still elevated.
I have been to Germany but I always wanted to be a part of Germany. I am thinking about living there. But if I do I need to speak German. So I will work on it.
