planted carrots, herbs, and peppers in containers I bought from the Dollar Store.
How I did it: My mom helped me with this. I had mostly seeds and a few plantlings. I got some big pots and a LOT of potting soil. I planted cucumbers, zucchini, green beans, tomatoes, squash, eggplant, and some herbs. Now I'm waiting to see if anything grows!!
Lessons & tips: Research which plants work well in containers.

I now have a new container garden at my front door, and I’ve received so many compliments!
It’s nice coming home to some color, and they keep me from neglecting my home as I was in the past because I have to stop in to water them every few days ;-)

Mostly because I started staying at my boyfriends house and didn’t water them. Now I’m back at my place and thinking about what plants/flowers I’m going to plant…

My oldest son refurbished the wheelbarrow for me to use as a planter 9 years ago. This year I filled it with petunias. It felt good to get my hands dirty today. The plants look so nice. They seem to look back and say “thank you”.

I put this off until most of my bedding flowers died. I now have the flowers and I do want my patio to look alive and not unused and un-lived in. There were three containers of old toys and “stuff” that had ended up on the patio. They are now gone to the dump. The landlord put up a beautiful new forest green awning and I would really like to dress that patio up.
This summer I had poppies and geraniums in containers, plus tomatoes and other flowers in the yard. Best of all – I got a hibiscus, kept it in a big container on the porch and it bloomed (giant red flowers – just beautiful) and hummingbirds showed up! I had no idea that would happen.

... but I did move two of my inside plants outside and will have flowers sometime this weekend. I can’t wait to see what it looks like!

... but I’ve got plenty of space outside of my front door to start a container garden. Most of my neighbors have one or two large plants beside their doors.
I’m hoping to plant two window box style planters (the rectangle ones) and perhaps a small flowering bush/tree and a couple of smaller potted plants.
I’m going to start looking for plants at Target today during my lunch =)
Last year ended up being a bust. But I haven’t given up! I’ve got poppies ready to go in one container and am working on two more.
