I would like to help in any way that I can
I did get involved this summer in helping to rennovate a old farm house in the Panhandle of Texas for a relative in need
Several relatives from different states, rv’s, families, showed up, some for the week-end, some all week
So many worked hard to renovate plumping, redo non-working bathrooms, non-working sinks, dishwasher, caved in roofs, etc
This experience was amazing to me. There was so much to do- it seemed at first overwhelming, so we all took little projects daily
My sister and I worked in the front garden
it was so much fun
I would love to help out another family in need
this is so rewarding

How I did it: I've actually done this more than once but got started in Biloxi, MS. Some friends and I decided we should donate a Saturday to Habitat for Humanity. All you have to do is show up and the people running the show will help you get started. The best part is that any skill level can make a difference. You don't have to be a carpenter to help out. Many of the people there had never driven in a nail before. … Read how I did it…

How I did it: First, I went to the local Habitat for Humanity website and signed up for the next Orientation meeting that I was able to attend. The orientation meeting was a brief overview of the organization, how it got started, what they do, and what they need help with. Shortly after the orientation meeting, I received an e-mail from the volunteer coordinator in my area with the listings of dates that they needed help with for the finishing touche… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I called the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity and asked how I could help. Since I don't have a background or any experience with technical building work like plumbing, electrical, etc., they said that I could help with painting. Two weeks later, I brought with me a bunch of paint rollers, paint brushes, and paint tins, and I rode with their caravan into Mexico. There, I helped to paint the exterior of several small houses th… Read how I did it…

How I did it: Volunteered with the local chapter and just volunteered for a few hours a week. Learned about the new concrete wall building technique for houses, installing floor joists, drywall and reviewed my interior painting skills along with helping out with CAD drawings and learning the types of tools and their names by fetching tools. How I did it: Actually, I did this with a different organization that's probably a copy-cat group. Regardless, I've actively built 4 houses in Mexico over the last few years. It's amazing what a handful of unskilled volunteers can create out of a pile of materials in one weekend. It's absolutely fulfilling to hand over the door keys to the family who's been eagerly awaiting shelter. I have been fortunate enough to have been involved with Habitat for Humanity throughout high school and college. Some of my most memorable service experiences have occurred with HFH. My freshmen year in college I went on an Alternative Spring Break trip to San Pedro Sula, Honduras and built a house with Global Village (a program part of HFH International). My Sophomore year I participated in a collegiate challenge blitz build in Columbus, Georgia and we built a entire house from a concrete foundation in under a week. Another trip was helping with Hurricane Katrina Relief in New Orleans, which might have been the most memorable for me. Occasionally being lucky enough to participate in and witness dedication ceremonies for the homeowners is a really amazing experience as well.
If you’re looking for a way to volunteer or an organization to support, I recommend either donating to HFH with money or your time (or both). It’s one of the decisions that has brought a lot of joy into my life.

Must be involved in an entire build. Can’t be one afternoon of carrying wood.

I want to help build a house. I also want my girls to help. I think they will have fun and learn at the same time.

Yesterday evening, I had my first volunteer orientation for Habitat for Humanity of the Greater SF Area. The volunteer director, the Habitat office employees, and all of the other prospective volunteers were all amazing people. Deb, the volunteer director, was such a fun and enthusiastic individual, and someone I would genuinely love to work with on a daily basis. There were two other volunteers in the room that are professional architects during the day that wanted to share their experience with Habitat. This is definitely a crowd of people I wouldn’t mind being surrounded by for a volunteer project.
New home building in San Francisco will not begin until November. In the meantime, I have decided to help volunteer with the Family Selection process and am eagerly awaiting an e-mail from Habitat.

Today marked the second day of we building a house for HFH. And I was having so much fun!
I am so glad I’m actually doing this.
now that the summer break is on. I’ve really been thinking a whole lot about helping out with all this extra free time that I’ll have.
Since I was 9 months pregnant when we were building our own house..I couldn’t help out. I worked in the kitchen part during the build week. I have, though, helped out a friend’s house that got us into the program a few years ago.
