If I could be beautiful enough to fool the world, I would have all civilization and the superficiality of life as we know it on a string around my finger.
How I did it: I grew up competing in pageants most of my life. It takes a lot of practice and self-confidence. Beauty pageants are basically a business and it's about money. They are good for building self-confidence and self-assurance, however they do encourage girls to act superficial, materialistic and fake. Interviewing with the Judges is probably the fakest you have to be with saying answers you "think" they want to hear -- it was cool to win, but not very fulfilling.
Lessons & tips: Be yourself, really. That's why girls like Miss America and Miss New Jersey are losing their crowns for blowing rails of cocaine on the toilet at the local night club and underage drinking. They are "formed" into these pageant girls who could not be any further from who they truly are.
Resources: Just don't do them -- they don't prove much. No one can be the perfect role-model to girls anyways. We all have skeletons in our closet and if judges, whoever really knew us, we probably wouldn't have even won.

I have got something in almost everyone i’ve been in. I won once! Well this year i want to win one at least maybe even 2!
When I was 10 years old I went on holiday with my family and my best friend came with us. We both entered a Beauty Pageant! and promised each other if one of us won we’d be sincerely happy for the other! Of course we never expected one of us to win but… My best friend won! I was absolutely gutted cos we’re both pretty girls. I spent that night crying myself to sleep. I have to stress I’m not the jealous type! and I was happy for her but still it’s what every girl would want isn’t it to WIN to feel pretty :-D Ever since that day I’ve longed to win a Beauty Pageant! but don’t think I’d have the guts to ever enter another one :-S lol
You don’t let it go to your head and you’re really doing it for your platform. It’s a lot of work to prepare for a pageant, and a lot of work to represent your title well. I recommend looking at Miss America Prelims and the Miss/Miss Teen/Mrs International (mrsinternational.com) system.
I started in International and it’s a great system to “train” in – if you will.
