houseofleaves is all sorts of behind.

Woah. 6 months ago

My father works with this guy, Tim, whom I love. He’s a huge Sci Fi geek, like me… only he’s more into Star Wars, while I’m more into Star Trek (oh, will we ever get along?)... so we trade action figures and art and things like that. Apparently BK had sold out of their little Star Trek promo cuppies and wanted to get rid of the display so Tim convinced my dad to bring home the display for the price of 4 cups to surprise me. My dad and him are nuts (in a good way).

What am I going to do with this thing?

It’s fabulous. Even if I don’t eat at that place.

I need to find something great for Tim.

I missed the opening day due to unforeseen circumstances, but got back on track today and saw it this morning.

There were definitely departures, but I understood why they did it, and I thoroughly enjoyed the film.

I might see it again.

The story of the film so far... 7 months ago

I’ll share my experience of the Star Trek movie, without any spoilers.

I was out of town at a meeting in Oklahoma City. There were a dozen or so people there attending with me whom I knew to varying degrees. Do you think it was easy finding someone who would go with me???? Of all of the people with whom I spoke, only one of them was the least bit willing to go with me to the movie.

After work we headed downtown, had dinner, and bought our tickets.

I liked the movie very much. There was a lot of action in it, the story was good. The actors were good for the roles in which they had been cast. They were very believable.

There were a few points where the story line departed from established Star Trek canon. One need only watch the episodes Journey to Babel, Amok Time, and The Enterprise Incident to find some of the main holes. There is a plot device which is supposed to help the viewer get around the canon violations, but I still had a hard time with the explanation.

The movie was good enought that I am willing to overlook the canonical violations and still think that it was a very good movie. The movie was laced with lot of humorous bits. However, to comprehend most of them you need to be fairly well-versed in Star Trek, the Original Series. The good thing is though, that you don’t have to pick up on all of the subtleties to enjoy the movie.

When we came out of the theater we gazed off into the distance. A major storm was heading our way. Lightning flashed in the distant clouds at a rate at which I had never seen before (Over 800 flashes per hour according to the news). It looked otherworldly. It seemed strange coming out of Star Trek and inot what looked like the surface of another planet.

We had heard that a major storm was heading our way, so we quickly headed back to the hotel. When I got in, the tornado warnings were starting to be issued. Eventually the area where my hotel is went under alert as well. I headed down to the lower level and waited the storm out with the rest of the hotel guests. Fortunately the tornado never materialized, and we could all return to our rooms.

That was my first experience with a tornado warning. I don’t think that I would care to do that on a frequent basis.

I’ll be in Oklahoma this week. I’m going to try and see it while I’m there.

My friends who have seen it have liked it.

Here’s the review

I'm Planning on it 9 months ago

R9 and my son-in-law to be are planning to go to this. I’m planning to tag along too. I think that they’re OK with it. If they’re not… I guess that I can make their lives miserable.

Live every day as if it could be your last, with 'Red Shirt' cologne... 9 months ago

I am DEFINITELY dressing in drag and wearing this cologne out to a party someday.

Star Trek Fragrances...

Suppose I could wait for “Ponn Farr” perfume, but that would take the fun out of a nice suit.

Wow, I need to get some sleep now, because I must be very tired.

New preview! 10 months ago

There’s a new preview – the 3rd(?) – that will be shown during the Superbowl tonight! Yeah, you can most likely find it online – in fact, I know you can – but it’ll look cooler on the TV.
