I’m so glad they’re doing this message again! Cause it makes me happy! I don’t think they did it before the New Year last year…did they?
ETA: and I just saw the new tab! LOVE IT!

I get so caught up in all the things I should do…which for me can become an endless, overwhelming list. I let worries about the future (job security, for instance) sap my enjoyment of the present.
I’m going to try to focus on this just a little bit more. If I’m not enjoying things, what is really the point?
I worked at home & wrote good emotional stuff.
The weather was gorgeous. I walked the dogs, walked to the grocery store & lugged groceries home, and did some weeding and staking in our front garden, which is blooming every which way.
The magazine for the RWA came, and my name and book were listed under First Sales.
I felt really excited by G’s latest poem. & we went to see Harry Potter.
Perfect day :)
For the last week, I’ve been on a project for our card line that’s specifically for African-Americans. As far as I can remember, the editors have always been black, and many black writers and artists work on the line, but some white people do too.
I write cards for all kinds of people who aren’t me: Hannah Montana enthusiasts, evangelical Christians, proud grandparents, etc. This was more challenging because I’d never worked on this line before and the voice is actually different. Usually in my job I feel like I know what I’m doing, but I really didn’t feel that way here at all. I was stressed about it, and I even did some work on Sunday.
But at the meeting the copy went over great…the editorial director even got teary-eyed! So did one of the (male) artists! It was really a relief and I felt happy about digging in and making it work.
that’s a rose my 5-year-old niece picked from a rose garden in a park, before we told her she couldn’t pick them
G’s mom & dad, his sister, and her 3 kids all came to visit and stayed with us from Thursday through Tuesday. I have to admit I can feel overwhelmed with that many guests, but they are wonderful people and it was great to see the funny, smart, adorable kids (7, 5, and 2.)
They made all kinds of artwork which G. taped all over the dining room walls. Funnily enough, they had a great time playing Old Maid with G.—they would put on displays of mock despair and shriek with laughter. We went with them to parks & watched them run around and have fun.
I really think the 2-year-old is a fledgling inspirational speaker. She runs around yelling things like, “yes you can!” or “ohhh yeahh!” The older ones really liked being tickled by their uncle. They all liked petting the dogs, who were ecstatic. It was really a great visit.
Got so much done! Then in the evening I got a pedicure and watched TV with G., which we don’t actually do that often…he got the DVDs for the first season of Everwood, a very sweet show and one he really enjoyed. I like it too!
Everyone was on vacation! Plus there were a couple of other conflicts. So it was just G. & I, who had not read the book, hanging out at my boss’s house gossiping about work. It was really fun :)
Crazy productive day…and still had time for fun stuff with my honey.
