travelyogatrance is riding the waves in this ocean called Life
I like food and consider myself to have a varied palate, but some of these are going to be a real challenge. I’m not into delicacies, and that is why completing this goal will be an accomplishment for me. Things on the list that I’ve already eaten (star = eat again):
1. Fresh fish* (salmon, though I’m not at all a salmon lover. I’d really liked to widen my roster of yummy fish)
2. Lobster* (at an upscale establishment and Red Lobster)
3. Steak* (what I had for dinner last night)
4. Thai food (made me choke and cough and wheeze and stuff my mouth full of Oreos and milk to get the burning to stop)
5. Chinese food* (eat this at least once per week. favorites include shrimp lo mein, sesame chicken, wontons, egg rolls, egg drop soup)
6. Ice cream* (a summer staple. favorite flavor is cookies n cream, but we often have spumoni at home)
7. Pizza* (A no-brainer. favorites include veggie and margherita)
8. Crab* (crab cakes, crab legs, and crab sandwich)
10. Prawns (aka shrimp)* (my favorite seafood, especially when coated in coconut batter and eaten with pina colada sauce)
13. BBQ (many times. though I like the sauce, BBQ’d food is not my favorite, but if its what’s for dinner, then I’ll eat it)
14. Pancakes* (delish for breakfast, lunch, or dinner :D)
15. Pasta* (I like all kinds, though I dont eat this food as much as I’d like to. I like macaroni, angelhair, fetuccine, linguine, tortelloni, ravioli, penne…)
16. Mussels (blech. tasted like I’d just drunk a huge glass of lakewater)
17. Cheesecake* (An acquired taste. I hated the stuff when I was younger, but now it is my most favorite dessert. I like it plain, no fruity toppings, or crusty bottoms, or sugary sauces)
18. Lamb (when I was much younger. Never again.)
23. Chocolate* (one of the finest foods we humans have!)
24. Sandwiches* (My pick for “if you were stranded on a desert island and could only have one food” game. Eat these for lunch almost daily)
25. Greek food* (yum-o! Eat this monthly, though I’d like to eat more often. Favorites include mousaka, spanakopita, pita with tzatziki, Greek salad with mounds of feta and kalamata olives)
26. Burgers* (I’m American. Nuff said.)
27. Mexican food* (Me likey, especially quesadilla, enchilada, carnitas burrito, hard and soft tacos, tortilla chips with salsa)
30. Salmon (several times, in no hurry to eat this again)
34. Sushi* (very light, tasty, and refreshing)
38. Kebab (we have these sometimes in the summer. I’m not too big on them)
39. Scallops*
40. Australian meat pie* (had one of these in Australia in 2000. YUMMY!)
41. Mango* (nice sweet fruit)
42. Ribs* (We have these for Christmas Eve dinner every year with BBQ sauce. Very yum)
44. Roast beef (eaten au jus, the only stomachable way, in my opinion)
45. Tapas* (had this at Spanish restaurant in Scotland, and in Spain. Nice way to try many different foods)
That leaves 19 foods to go, some of which I’ve wanted to try (clam chowder, paella), others Im indifferent to (caviar, cream tea), and many I don’t if I can force myself to swallow (haggis, guinea pig (are we sure this isnt supposed to be guinea fowl?), alligator…) Let’s see, to finish this list I’m going to have to visit Singapore, Lapland, England again, Peru, New England, Australia again, and where the heck am I going to find shark? shark fin soup in Hong Kong? well I have been dying to get back there, but I don’t like what is done to prepare that soup. Oy vey, this goal is going to have to go at the bottom of the list because of time, methinks~

I saw these at the supermarket when I was shopping the other day. I thought “yay, more seafood for the list,” and bought it. It was really damn expensive, and guess what… It tasted just like fish. I ate some and threw the rest in the bin. The whole house smelled of fish for about 2 days. :(
I think there’s only a couple more fishy things left on the list now. :D

I was shopping for some lunch a little while ago when I spotted a little pack of sushi for sale. I bought it and ate it.
It was pretty much exactly how I expected it to be. Cold, fishy, with rice. Salty and hot because of the soy sauce mixed with Wasabi. I liked it enough, but I don’t think I’ll be rushing out to buy any more very soon.
Only 10 more left to go!
This is too easy. I’ve always been an adventurous eater. I’ve tried a lot of this stuff already. I’m gonna up the ante and eat everything on this list in ‘08 even the ones I already tried and didn’t like.

I bought live oysters at Asda the other day. I grilled them to death and then swallowed them tonight.
Not something I’m in a hurry to put in my mouth again.

I had some jerk chicken today. It was, as the sign said, “very good” :)
I’ve got a renewed interest in finishing off this list. It’ll probably be easier now I live in Nottingham. :)
