Finally tried surfing for the first time. Got some tips from the chick who rented us our boards (#1: cover your head when you fall off) and we were on our way. Lessons schmessions.

This was much like snowboarding. Balancing on a 13’longboard was not as hard as I imagined, though catching the wave takes effort. . .as I learned it can become tiresome when paddling for the first time-using an unfamiliar muscle group. . .Most of all I was fortunate in being able to learn in Hawai’i on Waikiki beach with a personal instructor (getting to surf school early in the a.m. will enable one to take advantage of one-on-one instruction!!). . .
This sure was a deal with the 3,5 or 7 day “Go-Oahu card” (the price is free but there’s an option to choose btween 1 day free of a rental car, 1 admission into the polynesian cultural center or. . . the surf lesson). . .The guys at Ocean Surf are friendly and knowledgable. I’d definitely do it again and recommend it to all!
I’m going to Florida for spring break so I’ll see if they have surfing there also.
