How I did it: I think the site is still very much a work-in-progress, but the bare bones of it are in place. In the end I went for a Wordpress-based site, using the Thesis Wordpress Theme (that cost about 50 pounds but for ease of customisation was well worth it) as it gave me much more of a means of adding dynamic material to my site, for example I am posting details of a Prosperity workshop that I delivered not so long ago. I have got half-way through customising a Wordpress theme for my site, but am leaning now towards making the main site static XHTML/CSS rather than Wordpress.
I can work on the same stylesheet for the static pages so that if I want to then add a weblog/podcast later on (as is my aim) then I can add the Wordpress file hierarchy in a separate sub-folder and keep the look & feel of the site as a whole.
Also would like to include more meaningful and useful content – probably pages on social networking, along the lines of how to use them effectively in a small business, along with the pros and cons of each one. 3 years ago

After much thought, I decided that I need to create a personal look in Wordpress for my site, as I would like to have a blog as well as some static pages.
Since Wordpress is something I would like to offer to other small business owners in the area, it’s something I should really get to grips with soon. When I last did a lot of web designing, I pretty much restricted myself to use of HTML and CSS, with some Javascript as well. Now I see my need including knowledge of PHP, MySQL and perhaps other technologies such as Perl, and in time, perhaps Ruby and Rails.
But first I need to recall the old saying which runs something like ‘Tell the world what you are going to do, but first show it’. 3 years ago

This doesn’t apply anymore, so I’m removing it from my list. 4 years ago

I’ve set up a new family web site and completely revamped the look of my personal blog. But I haven’t touched my business site yet. So this is only progress in the sense that I at least have a better idea of what the site should look like when I’m done (albeit I still need to decide which photo I should use in the masthead, or whether I need to go take some more photos because none of the current ones is quite right).
Most of the work I need to do is in the area of producing some written content, though, and I haven’t done anything at all there. 5 years ago

I registered my domain at the same time that I registered my business name (during the incorporation process), and I’ve even got hosting set up. But that was in May, and here I am in August, still with a placeholder web site. Looks like I’ve got some work to do. 5 years ago
