"Deciding whether to have a simple static site or a dynamic one was the big choice which seemed to stump me most"
How I did it: I think the site is still very much a work-in-progress, but the bare bones of it are in place. In the end I went for a Wordpress-based site, using the Thesis Wordpress Theme (that cost about 50 pounds but for ease of customisation was well worth it) as it gave me much more of a means of adding dynamic material to my site, for example I am posting details of a Prosperity workshop that I delivered not so long ago.
Lessons & tips: I would say - think carefully about what you want your website to be about. Is it to sell your services, to inform, or to be a general site for people sharing your interests? I think that is important. From there, consider doing some research on search engine optimisation using for example, Wordtracker. Then write your text, and work out how you want to display it. Some would disagree with me, but I think, ever more than before, content is king.
Resources: I used PHP/MySQL on my site, with Wordpress as a Content Management System. I also opted for a paid-for Wordpress theme (Thesis) due to the quality of the results and the ease by which I can customise my site - . Finally, to help with the work that I am doing, I took out a subscription to Wordtracker.
