Jane SylvesterFrankie and Benny's

My first trip to Frankie and Benny’s resulted in my trying my daughter’s and son in law to be’s starters. They were insistant as they are keen to help me achieve this goal

12 Dough Balls – O.K. so this is really just teeny bread but as I’ve never had bread this teeny before I guess it counts.

13 Southern Blue Mushroom – flat mushrooms filled with mozzarella, garlic and breadcrumbs, oven baked and served with fresh rocket, Italian hard cheese and balsamic glaze. Slightly too garlicky for my taste but think I might try to make my own … one day ! 2 weeks ago

Jane SylvesterSneaky

at my work’s meal out my friend had Creme Brulee as her dessert. There was a debate as to if it just tasted like cold custard, in order to get my opinion she gave me a taste so

Jane SylvesterChristmas Tradition

10 Roast Chestnuts

Today i went to the nearby historic city of Lincoln’s famous Christmas market for the first time (despite it being only 60 miles away). My son-in-law to be bought a bag of chestnuts from a street vendor with a tradition ‘oven’ and shared :-) . I have to admit I thought they were yucky but at least I tried this festive “treat” . 2 months ago

Jane SylvesterChung's Choice

Tonight I went out for a Chinese buffet with the ‘girls’ from work. The ideal opportunity to try new foods :-

8 Crispy Aromatic Pork – this was delicious

9 Cantonese Chicken – I enjoyed this as well, so am feeling quite positive about this goal at the moment …. 2 months ago

Jane SylvesterRevision Treat

My son has been to school today – yes I know it’s Sunday! He has had 4 hours GCSE maths revsion ready for tomorrow’s exam. My ex bought him a ticket for a rugby international today but he made the mature desicion to attend class instead so we went out to tea as a reward.

6 spiced chicken wings – I knew from the name these would be too hot for me but I had a taste so can legitimately list them on here

7 Chinese Rice Noodles – these were yummy and I’ll definately be having them again :-) 3 months ago

Jane SylvesterOriental Express

Took my son out for tea yesterday as it’s half term. Spurred on by knowing I could place an entry on here I tried something I was convinced I’d love it as everyone I know likes them but sadly it was too hot and spicy for my taste ..oh well at least I tried :-)

'Jackie ThwaiteNot just trying new foods, but cooking new foods.

This week while my FIL was over from the States, I did a lot of cooking, also because I’m on school holidays as well.

We had a roast pork done on the Webber BBQ, pumpkin soup, kangaroo rigatoni, duck ala’orange, beef pho with kangaroo mince, chili con carne.

I’ve gained about 5kg during the fortnight, but I’ve been eating such varied dishes. Fish, seafood, game, beef, chicken, other poultry, it’s been a veritable smorgasboard.

I was so surprised at how well the crackling came up n the roast pork done on the BBQ, and then with the leftovers, we turned it in to pork green chili, and that was the first time I had tasted it.So yummy.

I love my food, and I’m hoping that if I can taste food better, and appreciate it more, and not scarf it down, then I will eat less, and maybe lose some weight as well. The good thing also is that I have lots of leftovers as well. This will be helpful when it comes to being organised and saving money. I’m getting there. 4 months ago

Jane SylvesterSpice of Life !

going to make this goal more specific so I can measure when i’ve completed it so it’s now Try 43 New Foods !

Yesterday I actually tried Indian food for the first time. It was a friend’s birthday and we went to the fabulous Spice of Life restaurant. I only tried mild dishes but was still impressed by my daring – yes there were traditional British alternatives ….. the meal was great.

jaiexFor multiple reasons...

... I need to eat healthier and not be so picky. I especially want to try more veggies, because I do have a few favorites so I know they’re not THAT bad. ;) I’d like to try to follow the endometriosis diet, to help with my pain [the cramps were especially bad yesterday!], but to also be healthy in general. THINGS TO AVOID:

  • wheat * – this includes breads, cakes and pasta products, all based on wheat
  • red meats – promotes negative prostaglandins
  • refined and concentrated carbohydrates – bread, flour, cakes made from refined flours
  • refined sugars and honey – causes inflammatory reaction
  • alcohol – consumes vit B stored in the liver
  • caffeine which is found in tea, coffee, soft drinks -increases abdominal cramps and increases estrogen levels
  • chocolate – as it contains sugars
  • dairy produce including all milk and cheese – inflammatory
  • fried food, margarine and hydrogenated fats – can stimulate negative prostaglandins
  • soy products and soy protein products – tamari can be used in small amounts
  • tinned and frozen packaged foods as little as possible
  • additives and preservatives – increase chemical load on the system

I’ll make a few exceptions because I adore pasta, but I do love multigrain pasta. I’ll mess around with this. 8 months ago
