I’m loathe to be a part of any kind of definable group, but..I suppose if the clog fits…
What else can you call yourself when you’re too interested in creature comforts and something (anything!) passing for financial security (in as much as anyone not Oprah, Martha or Bill can be secure right now) to run off an live in an abandoned building a la Rent (actual squatters are not that clean), but you don’t aspire to a suv-slumming-as-a-minivan, a perfect lawn (grass is boring), or such?
It’s also a really good reason to ignore ‘fashion’ and wear what you like. I have to say that ignoring the latest trends most certainly doesn’t affect my life negatively. Besides..I’m old..the hideous clothes I wore in the 80’s are making a comeback. Why, I don’t know…they were more than a little goofy. 4 years ago

I still kind of dig it, actually. But I don’t care to wear it. But, it looks good on things…and it can be interesting. A few artists have taken to interpreting it in curious modern ways.

I love paisley! So what if people don’t look good in it? It makes great accessories, has an interesting history and is visually interesting. 4 years ago

Neo-victorianism (asthetically, not morally) and steampunk.

For me, this is how to embrace technology and the post-modern world, without ending up in a void of cheap plastic imports and horrendous manners. We are not so different from the Victorians. Our world is changing rapidly…the horizons are expanding, and the once un-thinkable is now commonplace. But we still struggle with the common sufferings of humanity: poverty, hatred, violence, warfare. The world is re-inventing itself as we breathe.
I came to this one evening as I was walking in the square with my bff – I had on one of my favorite sweaters over a high-collared chiffon blouse, with an antique pin – realizing that what I really desired was to hire a carriage instead of taking the speedline. I really don’t like this new-fangled modern world where pajamas are an acceptable attire for dinner in public!
So what if it all smacks of escapism and idealization. We have to survive the modern world somehow. Now I’m going to have to have some calling-cards made up. 4 years ago
