I thought about it further. According to my calc I will have about $5K less a year by going part time.
That’s not so bad. I mean, it is a big chunk but not as bad as I imagined.
I need to get this figure checked by someone.
Will continue pondering ..

Working 5 days a week makes me feel like a slave.
Tried time management, efficiency & productivity etc these sort of things made me feel more like a zombie. Or a mouse exercising in that wheel thing in a cage.
I am pretty sure it’s also largely because I don’t like my job, but I don’t want to quit – it gives me a benefit that helps with what’s important in my life, for which I am very grateful.
So the only compromise I can think of is to be there less. And have another source of income to cover it. I have to figure that bit out somehow.

but while I have no real financial responsibilities I should make more of this freedom and try out different things, which I find hard when I’m spending all of my most productive hours in an office.

I want to retire from full-time teaching with 20 years, so I’ll need to work two more years. All of those part-time years when my children were young did not add up to as many years as I had hoped.
So now I’ve decided, and I’ll mark this one done for now.

I have been wavering a bit on this intention, with the economy and my personal debts as they are. But I still want to affirm my intention to go forward on this, so that I can expand the private practice to fill in the income and give me more freedom. If I need to wait a year, I can do that.

After the upcoming school year, I want to limit my work at the school district to my home school, where I am currently working two of my five days per week. I would be willing to accept one additional day. I would then supplement my income with private clients and some other work. I will do this!

and the money missing was so little compared to the freedom I’ve had the last three weeks not having to stay so late, being able to flex my hours around since I’m not already staying there 9 hours each day. I’m excited for my class to end so then I can go back to having a full day off every week. totally worth it…do whatever you can to make your budget fit this dream!

I asked again

with graduate school most likely around the corner…and it’s going to happen! At least, I’m pretty sure. I’m going to make sure I make it into graduate school before I count this done (because if I don’t make it in, I’ll likely go back to full time). But 90% starts in my next pay period for my summer class, at least.
