OK, new game plan, I think. Apple has refurbished nanos on sale. They have brand new batteries and casing (what I’m most concerned about) and the same warranty as a new iPod. $150 for 16gb… not too shabby. And as I listened to my music collection, I realize there’s quite a bit I don’t need to have access to all the time (i.e. a five-disc Elvis collection). I just need to make some playlists.
$150 isn’t a huge investment. If something better comes along in the near future, I’ll sell it and upgrade. But for now, I’m trying to keep things simple, and a simple nano adds to that ideal lifestyle :-)

I REALLY want an iPod that will hold my entire music collection, plus some podcasts and/or videos. That leaves the Classic and the 32gb Touch as my only options. The Classic has crappy reviews and, again, it’s got a hard drive. The Touch is just too freaking expensive.
So I think that means I’m waiting until September… when they’ll likely release new iPods… I’m hoping for a better functioning Classic, a cheaper Touch, or a 32gb Nano. In a dream world, they’d release one of those this month along with the new iPhones, but I know it won’t happen. But I really, really want something that’ll hold my whole collection.
And so I wait… not so patiently.

I’ve got an iPod mini (circa 2004) right now. I love the size and durability of it, but the capacity (4gb) is a bit low and the battery life (3-4 hours) sucks. I guess I don’t need a new iPod, but I really want one.
I went to the Apple store today and learned a bit more. The Classic is a hard drive, whereas the Nano and Touch are both flash… HUGE plus. So the Classic is basically out of the question.
I’ve also accepted the fact, or come to the realization, that I don’t need my ENTIRE music collection with me at all times. Some stuff I really don’t enjoy listening to all that often (MSU Marching Band, RENT soundtrack) and some is seasonal (Christmas music :-).
So now the question is – 16gb Nano for $200, 16gb Touch for $300, or 32gb Touch for $400? OR do I wait for September to see what new gizmos Apple releases? Why do I stress myself out over such unimportant things?

and I really think I just need to bite the bullet and buy a new one. I’m still debating between the Classic and the Touch… and every once in awhile I’m still considering the Nano. I’ve got to stop talking about this, make up my mind, buy one, and use it!

Last August only took me a year to remember to cross it off the list.

My iPod died on my birthday. On the start of a 28 hour road trip (no less). I even got the X’ed eyed 1st gen. iPod on the screen. Slowly saving towards a new one.

I was so angry when I lost my iPod mini running to the bus as I had spent a 18 months setting it up just right. And now I am finally back in business and happier than ever as the Nano is light, petite and sleek. I love it!
