    Finnish 5 cent euro coin 1 week ago

    I think I had lost this coin last year, I don’t know where. However, I found another one between other coins in my wallet, thanks to the RWCh algorithm (Regular Wallet Check). Good!

    Germany completed! 4 weeks ago

    I had been looking for this last German euro coin for a long time. It is funny that, being Germany the most populated country in the European Union, I took so long to find the 1 cent euro coin.

    Today my girlfriend was looking in her bag, and she found this coin. Nothing surprising to find a one cent coin, but being this coin made it somewhat of a lucky happening.

    Luxembourger 1 euro coin 1 month ago

    What a piece of luck! I have found this specimen of 1 euro coin from Luxembourg yesterday. A classmate gave it to me to pay for a beer, and I just checked the coin as I usually do.

    Usually coins here are always Spanish coins (not surprisingly, I am in Spain), and checking that does not seem very fruitful. But from time to time, I am lucky, so it is worthy ;)

    Slovakia! 11 months ago

    Slovakia entered the Eurozone on 1st January this year. And this way it entered also the countries for this goal.

    Something I didn’t expect happened. I visited my friend Marek this weekend. While having a cup of tea, he gave me a bag he had brought for me from his Christmas holidays (like this one). A bag with lots of Slovak euros! This is the first time I get the complete set at on blow.

    Thanks Marek!

    Greek coin of 1 cent 13 months ago

    After a “coin drought”, I have got the Greek coin of one cent, thanks to William, who is doing the same collection as me :)

    One more commemorative coin 15 months ago

    Actually commemorative coins are not part of this goal (which means that I will mark it as completed independently of how many commemorative coins I have), but as they are related to euro coins, I will speak about them here. Every year there are issued several commemorative coins. In my last trip to Italy/Spain I have found one I didn’t have yet: one of the 16 million Italian 2 euro coins for the 50th anniversary of the World Food Programme.

    It is a very nice coin: it shows an ear of maize, one of wheat and one of rice, the staple food of most people on Earth. I just don’t like that “World Food Programme” was written in English. I mean, it would be fine if it were an English coin, but being an Italian coin I don’t see why the inscription cannot be in Italian language.

    I’m still looking for one of the eight million Spanish 2 euro coins of Don Quixote.

    Eurocoin project map 18 months ago

    I have set up a map of Europe showing how this project is going. This is the current situation!

    The legend is not very readable here, as the website reduces the image, so here is the key:

    light grey = not in project
    dark grey = maybe one day
    red = non yet
    orange = one or two
    yellow = between three and five
    green = six or seven
    blue = all of them! (eight)

    Now it is harder! 18 months ago

    When I was working at the hotel and my girlfriend was working at the shop, it was much easier to get euro coins from many countries, as we were much more in contact with lots of coins. Now I think this project will slow down, but it is still very interesting and exciting.

    I don’t have yet any coins from the small countries (Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City).

    I’m putting all the coins on my wardrobe’s door, attached with blue tack. It is very nice!
