i went to the store and bought one of nearly every fruit they had, focusing on the ones i’ve never tried before. i am particularly apprehensive to this experiment because trying new foods is frightening, yet a stimulating, maturing experience. the only other food i have in my place is rice, so i either eat the fruit or i don’t eat the fruit and starve; really, that is what it takes.
the fruit:
banana
granny smith apple
ambrosia apple
mango
kiwi
persimmon
pomegranate
grapefruit
valencia orange
honeycrisp apple
asian pear
bartlett pear
red bartlett pear
plum
not a fruit:
winter squash

i am 21 years old, 150 pounds, exercise everyday, practice tae kwon do, and ride my bike everywhere. i am in good shape, except:
i love to eat, i eat all the time, i eat to make myself feel good, i eat until i feel sick.
if i didn’t eat reasonably healthy, if i ate fast food, if i had gotten my fathers slow metabolism; i would be huge.
this is a problem for a few reasons:
as i age my metabolism will slow down.
i eat with emotion.
i overeat and make myself sick.
i have digestion issues.
to solve this problem i need to:
slow down and appreciate my meals.
eat frequent, small meals.
find foods that make my body feel good.
not reach out to food when i feel down.

today i made a zucchini and carrot cheese quesadilla. i took these items i had stored in the refrigerator and made a healthy meal.
soft corn tortillas
sliced zucchini
sliced carrots
chopped green garlic
mozzarella cheese
i sliced the zucchini and carrots into short thin spears and sauteed them, along with my delicious and subtle green garlic, in olive oil and a sweet balsamic vinaigrette. then i put the tortilla on a hot fry pan, with the cheese on top and the vegetables on top of that. finished it off with some more cheese and the other tortilla.
the taste was simple and fresh with a nice crisp lightness; a spring feelgood food.

for the past year i have had chronic gastrointestinal complications and a serious component of those issues come from the foods one eats.
in an attempt to feel better and nurture my body i am going to devise a healthy meal plan; one that is nourishing, healthy and full of foods i enjoy.
this will remove those temptations to grab some processed food off the shelf and pollute my body while i gorge myself into submission. it will also expand my taste diversity, which is embarrassingly narrow; cereal, pizza and boca burgers, everyday.
this will also streamline the arduous task of shopping. when i am back at university, i have access to a great selection of healthy organic food, that happens to be competitively priced, along with a great grocery delivery service, for those frigid minneapolis winters.
with this meal plan i can purchase my groceries in convenient weekly trips; it is a burden to shop daily and great natural foods never last a month.
it also removes the mental burden of spontaneously planning a meal and scrounging around the internet for recipes and through the cabinets for ingredients, that i never seem to have when i need them.
