Me and my friend plan on doing this in the summer year 2010 :)
How to interrail around europe
How I did it:
- 48h em comboios
- 67,67h em barcos
- 16,58h em autocarros
- 7,5h em carros
- 4,33h em aviões
No total passei 144h (6 dias) da minha vida em viagem. Isto tudo para fazer cerca de 9700 km.
Desperdício de tempo? Nah!

This is a very nice thing to do… specially with friends with similar likes than you!! i cought a lot of rain and still it was good… the south of france is superb! > Monaco and Nice.
This goal is outdated, I no longer want to travel Europe by train, it was my dream as a teenager, at 17-18 years old but now I’d rather have a city trip here, a wekk there and so on, rather than touring a zillion countries in as little time as possible. Plus I’m turning 26 and the prices won’t be that cheap, especially since you have to pay for accomodation as well….
I would do this kind of route with a pass of 10 days travel in a 22 days period….
DENMARK > ferry > NORWAY – Artic Circle > SWEDEN > FINLAND > ferry > GERMANY (Berlin) > POLAND (express train to Warsaw) > HUNGARY > CROATIA – stay there and visit thoroughly for a week.
That’s do-able in 3 weeks, no?
I really wanted to do this this summer but unfortunately my travel buddy buggered off. I’m definately shelving the idea for next year though; would like to go down into France, spend a fair amount of time walking in Switzerland (probably around Interlaken) amd then head up into the nordic countries. Better break in my boots again!

Although I did this many years ago I can highly recommend it. It is a great way to see Europe and make friends. I will never forget the ‘international’ footy match in Innsbruck where there were about 15 a side and people from 15 or more countries all having a great time, a long hot weekend in Strasbourg, where the wine flowed and songs were sung (the yoof hostel even had a bar!) and an over night from Italy to Spain.. that I will never forget :) As they says “just do it” I hope to do it again some day..
Me and friends are thinking about travelling with Interrail around Europe next summer. We’re thinking of taking the ship to Venice before the ticket actually is valid, spend 1-2 days there, and then go to France, from there to Belgium and Holland, then to Germany, Czech, back to Germany for a visit to Munich, Austria, Slovenia, and back to Venice. All in one month. I hope we manage to collect the money we’re thinking we’ll spend (about €1000+ each). I can’t wait.
I have already got a copy of Lonely Planet’s Europe on a Shoestring and I will be coming to the end of a contract by April 07 so it’s an opportunity not to be missed. Now all I need to do is decide how long I’m going for and to save some pennies…
