those few moments to have every single burden lifted, to feel free to fly like a bird…to soar..
How I did it: I was driving with a friend across the moors in Devon. We saw a friend of his who was teaching hanggliding. Next thing I knew, a helmet was on my head, ropes on the wings, and they ran me down the hill - wow, wheee, crash. Repeated many times. The last time I went up about 20 feet and along about 200 yards. Wonderful. And I was very proud of myself for saying yes, as I have bad vertigo

I want to go to North Carolina to see what Raleigh is like, and they have hang gliding. It is a good excuse to go down there. Nobody I’ve asked wants to go with me. They seem afraid of hang gliding. This could be a fun opportunity to take a vacation alone though!

Dreams of flying effortlessly on a pair of massive angelic wings torture me in my sleep, as I awake chained to the coils of gravity. Haha, simply the freedom of independent flight is my one and only fantasy, and I think hang gliding is as close as I can get. I’ve seen pictures of people hang gliding over the Grand Canyon, and Victoria Falls and realized: “I HAVE to do that!”
I got to do this about three months ago with five friends in Eastern Maryland. No cliffs, so we were tied to the back of an ultralight and towed up to 2500 feet. Incredible!

I’ve been skydiving and parasailing, but this week’s hang-gliding over Rio de Janeiro was much better. Not only was the view simply amazing, but the “flying” feeling was incredibly calming.
Don’t be scared, just do it!
