I didn’t eat chocolate for a year! It was hard, but I finially got to eat it again, and it’s still as good as I remember it. I can taste the difference between hershey’s and “good” chocolate now, though. 4 years ago

If you’ve never eaten chocolate, you have no idea what you’re missing!!! I absolutely love chocolate. I gave it up for Lent, though, and I will be glad when I can eat chocolate again tomorrow for the first time in 40 days. It was very hard to give up, but I did it! 4 years ago

in_trepidBest thing ever

You eat chocolate with your friends, you can eat chocolate when your happy, you can eat chocolate when your depressed, when your bored, theres a chocolate for everything! And you know what, you can never get enough, if you ask me, chocolate is the best medicine!!! 4 years ago

bananapancakesrussia

I ate some Russian chocolate yesterday and today! I didn’t know what was in it since I can’t read Russian, but it sure did taste good! The wrappers were cute too…they mostly either had squirrels or bears on them. The one pictured above has a bear family. The Papa bear is holding his own box of chocolates! 4 years ago

my husband likes chocolate more than me, but that’s not to say I don’t like it. Often I crave it. =) 5 years ago

bananapancakeschocolate!

I don’t usually eat chocolate daily, but I’ve been eating it more than usual lately. During the past week or so, I wanted to eat anything with chocolate. I’ve even been day dreaming about M&Ms World in Las Vegas, NV! Right now I’m especially craving some chocolate covered pretzels!!! 5 years ago

Since moving to Europe I have become a chocolate aficionado. I highly recommend trying Domori’s Latte Sal. Also the Lindt Edelbitter Mousse Feige Caramel (although I am not sure they are readily available in the US).

There is an amazing chocolate shop in Munich that always inspires me to take photos of the chocolate before eating it – it is that beautiful. 5 years ago

is a sometime somnambulistChocovic Ocumare, 71% Cocoa | Extra Bitter - ohhh, baby!

Chocovic Ocumare

The “Fine-flavoured Cocoa” by excellence, Criollo is the rarest and most widely sought of the cocoas. Its tree, very fragile and with a low output, requires meticulous care, on which the quality of the future chocolate will depend. This exceptional cocoa is only cultivated in small quantities (5 to 10% of world production) in countries where cocoa grows, and particularly Venezuela.
In 1634 there were already documents describing the first shipments of Venezuelan cocoa to Spain and since then, Venezuela has been consolidated as one of the producers of the best, finest cocoa in the world.

NUT: A violet red colour with a sharp tip at one end and a rough surface, it contains between 20 and 30 grains per nut.

GRAIN: Light grey-brown colour, almost translucent, thick with a round cross section.

FERMENTATION: Between two and three days

DRYING: In the sun directly on the ground or on leaves.

TASTE: A soft aroma with tones of exotic woods, dried fruit and spiced tones, a delicate, persistent taste, well-proportioned and full. Special note of the cedar, tobacco and prune tones. 5 years ago

is a sometime somnambulistChocovic Guaranda, 71%, extra bitter - yowza!

Chocovic Guaranda

Forastero is the most widely cultivated cocoa (around 80% of all world production). The tree is characterised as being highly illness-resistant and allows a much higher production than the Criollo. It is not classified as “Fine-flavoured cocoa” and is used by mixing it as a base alongside other superior types. However, there is an exception in Ecuador, the Nacional or Arriba cocoa. Excellent and perfumed, its unquestionable quality makes it considered “Fine-flavoured cocoa”, like the Criollos and unlike the rest of the Forasteros. Since its beginnings the best Ecuadorian cocoa was the Arriba, as this cocoa, only used for exporting, was the one cultivated in the upper area of the river Guayas (upstream – río arriba). With the decades, this name became a synonym of quality.

NUT: Green or yellow and in a large variety of shapes. Each nut contains between 30 and 40 grains.

GRAIN: Long and flat, dark purple colour.

FERMENTATION AND DRYING: Over one week. Unique case: the fermentation and drying are done together.

TASTE: A perfumed aroma with floral aromas of acacia honey, dairy tones and exotic woods. A cocoa bean with an unmistakeable personality. A mildly bitter taste with candied citric tones, floral with a honey character. 5 years ago
