Make new friends in my new city

I’ve been invited to a dinner party directly, not through my hubby. What a breakthrough. I got to be the person asking if they wanted to go. I am looking into more social activities for me to attend and just go out more often.

I’ve been holding on to the past. I have had 20 years to slowly develop social networks in Toronto. Many close relationships. Family. So many loved ones. What made me decide to give all that up?? I don’t know. So here I am in small town New Zealand with many wonderful acquaintances and no real friends. I must start cultivating real friendships. I need to if I’m to survive my new life…

and I’ve subsequently almost had too much to do! Ha, I’m not complaining. Hopefully I’ll make a few more Brazilian friends as my language skills improve too.

I’m happy to check this off the list.

This week I’ll meet a Brazilian study partner and maybe he’ll be a new friend too…

that is teetering on classification as “good friend.” Victoria, a New Zealander, and her boyfriend Bruno had a little soiree at their apartment last night. I had a really nice time.

I must keep looking for ways to find kindred spirits here.
