    and it was, apparently, a secret that I was not supposed to discover.

    But I did. Discover it.

    And so I fixed it with a five dollar part from the hardware store.

    Did I get a “thank you”?

    I will let you know when that happens, but I don’t recommend you hold your breath.

    it was messy and stained with marks from years of neglect.

    Now, it’s cleaned up quite a bit. A video is completed.
