I just love that books are a source of knowledge for the masses and I would love to work at seeling knowledge to people. I just love books, okay?

Abby . . . dislikes morning . . .
but it was so NOT. In spite of the wonderful 30% discount and the borrowing priviledges, I absolutely HATED it because of the corporate polices of the store (cough . . . Borders . . . cough) . . . one of which included a search of each employee’s belongings (purse, etc) each and every time he or she left the store, even if only stepping out for a smoke. It was offensive and annoying that they assumed that just because I worked for them, I was stealing from them . . . gee, maybe it was because they paid me SQUAT. I pointed two things out to them in employee meetings that they didn’t much appreciate – first, I told them that if I had been the sort who steals, I would have stayed at my previous job in a pharmacy where I could steal drugs, which would actually make me some money on the streets, and that second, had I been the sort who steals, I could have managed to steal from them without getting caught even though they checked my purse every time I left. Needless to say, they didn’t much appreciate my observations.
Anyhow, I quit the job when I found one in a hospital making twice as much and they had the nerve to be pissy because I only gave them a week’s notice instead of two. rolls eyes
Geez, I hated that job.

i volunteered in an oxfam book shop and it was great. i read alot anyway and they used to give me discounts on the already cheap stuff. sometimes theyd give you the book for free, so id read it and then bring it back and they could sell it on. very kind people too and i felt like i was making a difference! def worth doing even if your getting paid as bookshops always have a calm and good atmosphere.

While I took time off from college. I worked on the loading dock, with 4 other women, most of the drivers knew us, but you should have seen the look on the faces of the new guys, 6’ truckers trying to give me tips on how to use a dolly. My job was to return the textbooks.
Anyway, I loved it. Everyone was very well-read, and fun, being on the loading dock meant we had some freedom from the suits above (could hear them coming in their heels), and could blast music. Downside(?): ended up spending most of my income on books.
