Success Criteria? 5 months ago

Since I’m big into having specific goals (ie. “lose 15.5 pounds by my birthday” and not “lose weight”), I thought I’d specify my criteria for these five new friends.

I wish I remembered who I knew and how well when I wrote this so I knew who I could count as “new”.

Anyway, for lack of a better method of measuring “friendness”, I am going to use the following:

1. I must be able to call this person and say, “Hey, do you want to go to dinner tonight?” and it wouldn’t sound weird.

2. I have to be happy that I am associating with this person. (No cheating here and spending time with people I can’t stand just so I can check this one off my list.)(And then dumping them right afterwards.) This is an honest goal.

I will fill in the new friend’s codenames (to protect the identities of someone who is a persoanl goal of mine without realizing it—doesn’t this sound like the basis of some bad romantic comedy? ... yeah – just a little) here as the frienships are born:

Befriending Meredith and Missy may be one of the best things that happened to me this year. I don’t talk to Sam much lately and I don’t thing Steve and Kal are really good for me.

More and more friends 10 months ago

I have a quite a few friends both who I’ve known for years of have meet more recently. Though these days many are getting married and having kids or have different agendas.

I sometimes feel isolated and feel there are more things I should be going with myself with other people. I can’t stand seeing my weekends come to and end and feeling I’ve spent the majority of the time by myself.

I’d like to make more friends both male and female. I’d really like to open more circles of friends creating more exciting things to do and people to speak to.

Trying too hard 16 months ago

I read something online about getting ready for college life and granted I’ve graduated college twice, maybe it doesn’t apply to me but it seemed to hit home. It said you should go out and try new activities and keep an open mind and just go out and have fun. Don’t go to an event thinking, ‘I’m only here to make friends.’ and dread going. Go because you want to and maybe you’ll make friends in the process.

I’m trying to do this. Sometimes at events or work I think I try to rush friendships and maybe that turns people off. But then again, I’m a little worried with this new plan I’m just putting the problem aside. But I am going to try new things and be more places so it might work.

I’ve got to know my roommate more and I’ve kept in touch with some of my old friends lately. And I’ve become a lot more close to my boyfriend. But I’m planning to move to LA in july so when I get there, I hope to make 5 new friends. Right now, its too much of a transition time.
