How to come very close to an elephant, touch him and let him tousie my hair with his trunk
How I did it: It wasn't anything planned, so I guess it was a matter of being in the right place at the right time.
My kids were little and we took them to the zoo. When we got there, before we even went inside, there was an elephant behind a chain link fence.......right there in front!
Of course I went right over to her and talked to her. She came to the fence so I put my fingers thru and tried to scratch her cheek which she had close enough. I don't know if she felt it or not -- their skin is tougher than a pig's!
Then she put her trunk up and touched me with the movable part -- their nose is very soft just inside the trunk.
Nobody else came near although there were many people coming to the zoo. Even my kids and family members. But I didn't notice until a lady asked me "Are you the trainer?" It made my day! : ) Elephants are awesome!
(Once at a petting zoo, I got to feed a giraffe out of my hand. They like cheerios! A nice lady shared hers with me because the giraffe didn't want anything to do with the feed I bought out of one of those little quarter feed machines.)
Yeah, I'm crazy over animals. : )
Lessons & tips: Keep your eyes open, you never know when opportunity may knock.
