I still haven’t auditioned, nor do I know when I am going to audition. And neither does the director. I think this little episode I had over the bass flute is probably making him really reluctant to have me audition in the first place.

I got a new fretless bass today. :3 I’ve been wanting one for a long time and I’m probably going to use this one for my jazz ensemble audition since it has a more acoustic sound. I like the feel of it, but I’m going to have to play with it a lot to really get attuned with it. That’s why I love bass instruments so much: it’s like when I can feel it vibrating against me, I can tell more about it than just listening to it. It’s like I don’t need to hear the note to know what I played. Of course, I’m not to that point with this new bass, but I’m working for it.
The director keeps postponing the audition. I’m afraid this is going to be thrown together more than anything, but at the same time, I’m just glad I have the chance to play my bass where people can and will listen.

So the audition keeps getting moved so I didn’t get to complete my challenge on time…. oh well xD I found out I might have competition, but even then, I’m getting exponetially better on my bass.

I know this may seem silly, but there’s an audition coming up, and I really want to play bass for it. My chances are pretty high since I’m the only trying out as far as I know (so much for inspirational…)

Whoever says clarinets don’t have a place in jazz has never heard a Dixieland New Orleans jazz band. New Orleans is where jazz started and remains purest and most spontaneous. I’ve been in a Dixieland band for about five years at my university and have gotten good enough improvising to be let into the big band (after I learned to double on tenor sax of course).
I’d really like to try my hand at learning modal improvisation. Chord progressions are more the trade of older jazz and beginner improvising, but you can tell whenever someone is using modes. It just has that sound. Not that I’d totally give up the chordal stuff, but make a mix.

I am currently in school pursuing a major in Studio Music and Jazz. I play the trumpet, and want to be good enough to work with some awesome artists.

I have started to learn Dexter Gordon’s solo to “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”. Hoping to have it learned by Christmas. Also, going to refresh my previous transcription of Dex’s solo on “Three O’Clock In The Morning”, as it’s been about 6 months since I played it all the way through.
