this is a book that i did with painted covers.
acylics on watercolor paper. it is similiar to the 43 things site…in that I made the book for myself as “a wish book” with a page representling each year of my life. on each page i wrote one wish for myself to try to accomplish for the year. the book is from 2004, and after accomplishing each thing (although not all in that year) I wrote a line or two about what the experience felt like.
hope you enjoy seeing the covers and perhaps copying the idea.

hi all,
i am the head bookbinder at Paper Source in Chicago, where I have an amazing staff of 6 people that make all our albums, journals, guest books and where we do some amazing custom work -all by hand. i also head up national workshops and special events, and we happen to feature bookbinding workshops at several of our stores across the country.
We have trained instructors along with quite a few of our staff listed online who teach the basis’s in bookbinding classes we offer: from starting with one of our journal or photo-album kits, or making just the outer case binding, to learning all of the stiching by hand.
And, if you don’t find something strikes your bookbinding skills give me a shout at lbarrett@paper-source.com.
As I live in the chicago area and also teach privately, anyone looking to add that to their list of things to learn for the new year…put a check next to it by visiting
www.paper-source.com (and look under workshops)
or reach me personally at

happy holidays!

I want to make my own. I have a book from the library but it is a little too complicated. I need to be shown.

I love it, I love it, I love it! Making your own books is perfect for journaling, because the book you make is entirely personal, you know? I’ve mostly worked with coptic binding, but I’ve been experimenting with other styles, lately.

bookbinding is cool technology. I’m totally into it—great for assembling reference materials.
