I refused to repeat the mistakes of my previous near ascension. I destroyed no bags of nolding with a wand of cancellation, used no amulets of life saving and only had one near death experience and that was in Orcus town.

There was nothing of any real note to report except for Orcus who summoned Demogorgon and Yeenoghu. I’ve never met Demogorgon before. He’s not very nice.

I wasted a wish on a cursed potion of gain level to escape from this, forgetting that I had the Orb of Fate. Hey ho.

The rest of the game was uneventful. I had a couple of wands of death and a cockatrice corpse. More than enough to take care of Rodney and the high priest of Moloch.

The run back up the dungeon was easy except for trying to escape Gehennom. I kept getting transported back. I lost count how many times I saw levels 44 – 42. Rodney only appeared two times on the run up to level 1. I had one run in with a malignant aura which took my bag of holding down to uncursed and failed to do anything to the Orb of Fate. Holy water took care of everything and we continued on our way. Nothing else bothered me on the run up to level 1.

The elemental plains were easy, Rodney turned up twice on Earth and never again. On Astral I went straight ahead for Famine, clearing my way with wands of teleport.

The first altar I reached was Lawful, which was nice but I was never in any real danger.

I got soooo close to this a couple of weeks ago.

Was just going to get the amulet when Rodney set about my Valk. He cursed the pickaxe and levitation boots I was using at the time. Everything I needed was in my bag which I couldn’t get to due to the curse. I managed to kill old Rodders 7 times, mostly with a thoroughly rusty pickaxe, before his animals finally got me. Next time several methods of remove curse in my hand luggage and more methods to insta kill him.

My Valk was about level 22, AC -34, 250 HP and a full set of intrinsics.

now for all 13 classes ;)

Currently got my third (hopefully) barbarian on the plane of air, and in total about 13 ascensions in the past. The PDA I mostly use to play has nine listed. And yet I still find the game compelling, don’t even mind playing the types I’ve ascended loads before.

got to the “Dark One” in the wizard quest for the first time, so you’re reading the text of a first-time-holder-of-the-bell-of-opening :)

was doing well in gehennom, got back into gnomish mines to do the quest (yes I know …)
I go around a corner, see a cockatrice, didn’t have the patience to dispatch it using a few magic missiles, so I start hacking with my magicbane …...........................................
Heard some hissing, felt some stiffening, though a unicorn horn would do as well as a prayer, .... you can guess the rest
