How to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award

I started bronze last year, I have finished it, but I still need to get bits and pieces signed off.
Really, I think the hardest part is signing it off.
But I’m also thinking whether it’s worth completing the rest of this…

nixisan should be revising for that...thing tomorrow.

i’m hoping to go straightaway for the gold.

i’m not sure whether it’s worth it for cvs these days because everyone does it

i’m also doubtful because of the costs involved….im at uni and hence broke haha

i’m not a very sporty person either..

donno! lets see what happens

Im doing Gold! 14 months ago

Im not sure why I wasn’t able to do Silver but all it means is that I have to spend an extra 6 months on one of the sections, which is fine by me!

Getting there 16 months ago

Last week I finally completed my Gold expedition assessment, and it was a fantastic week!

I think I can safely say that it was the best walk I’ve ever been on, and definitely the most tiring, but we were a good group and as we know each other so well and could go about the walk effectively, we were glad to hear we’d passed.

All that’s left is to get the other areas signed off and organise my residential… not too demanding then, heh?

Assessment this week! 16 months ago

I’m currently in the preparation stages/packing stages, as I leave for my final Gold expedition this week!

I can’t believe it’s finally come. Three/four years ago when I started Bronze I knew that I’d eventually be going for Gold, and that time has finally arrived.

Wish me luck, and I sure hope the weather is nice, not to hot, and definitely rain free!

Route planning... 16 months ago

I’ve drawn the short straw. Unfortunately due to a number of circumstances, I have to plan the whole of my groups 4-day expedition.

I spent the entire afternoon, and still haven’t finished. I forgot how time consuming such a task is! There’s deciding on a good route using a map, then calculating all the required data of distance traveled, heights climbed, times taken for each leg, along with time for stops. Way to confusing!

I should be finished tomorrow though, it’ll be a huge sigh of relief! Hopefully there won’t be anything wrong with them… fingers crossed!

Bronze, Silver... Gold 16 months ago

I’ve managed to complete both my Bronze and Silver awards, so all that’s left is Gold.
Luckily it shouldn’t be too long before its all over. The final expedition is in about a month, and I’m getting there with the other three sections.

My only problem currently is the residential for Gold, I don’t have much free time over this summer, so I may have to squeeze something in over the October Half Term… its going to be tricky!

It’s soooo much fun! When we did our practise expedition it went REALLY wrong and we ended up having to leg it across a busy motorway… but we all enjoyed it immensly! Dont give up on it, its sooooo worth it in the end!

changed my life 2 years ago

It was the best thing i did in my teenage years! A great excuse to go bushwalking with a 15 kilo rucksack too :)
