go on an unplanned roadtrip

How I did it: Mom and I woke up on a cold, February New York morning. We started talking about how tired we are of the bitter cold, and how stressed we both are, and how we just need to get away. We packed as quickly as possible, and decided to drive South, without a destination or a plan. A few hours on the road, we thought hopefully we'd hit some warmth by Virginia and stop there. We ended up driving all the way down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Maxed out Mom's credit card with the gas, hotel, and food, and ended up staying a whole week. (Luckily, I had a week off from school.) Once we hit 88 degrees, and could lay out under the sun all day, we didn't care that we'd blown $3000 that we'd never be able to pay back. We were just relieved.

Lessons & tips: Lessons? Be careful with your money. Take a lot of pictures, and definitely also document your trip with a blog or something. This is unplanned, so forget 'responsibilities' as much as you can. Forget hotels you've already stayed at, or famous locations to visit. Be random. You'll be surprised how many wonderful things there are out there.

Resources: If you're on a budget, definitely look up some legit hostels online.. They have them all around the country. Get a map, and a friend who knows how to read a map and navigate. If the trip is unplanned, you have no business with a GPS.
