Go through old magazines

stacks and stacks 12 months ago

First step: I have combined all my stacks into one very very tall, life-size stack. It didn’t take long, and it made such a huge difference in reducing the visual clutter.

Next step: (it’s gonna take a while) going through each magazine, tearing out the good stuff, and organizing it into respective binders: recipes, home, art, beauty, fashion…. (will make the categories as I go along).

Step after that: donate magazines that are still in good condition.

And after that: find a nice place for the magazines I choose to keep and STOP BUYING SO MANY MAGAZINES!!

It's so hard to just chuck them... 15 months ago

So I am reading them, and vowing not to keep new ones for more than a week after they come it. It is a real time waster, even though I have magazines that have good articles, like Harpers, The New Yorker, Body and Soul and New York, but I have alot of books that I need to read that are much more important. I also need to start preparing for the GRE, and job hunt. Need to prioritize more.

This used to be a fixation with me! 2 years ago

I used to collect and prepare meals from old cooking magazines, which I still love to do from time to time now that foodism and food porn have come so into vogue I found it highly amusing and even had dinner parties with friends to share my glee (based on out of date themes obviously)- which is probably why I have so few friends now…. heeheeheeehhee.

But it’s like watching an old film that makes you imagine what it was like in other times or places and brings back memories and- you know what? I should probably get more of a life! HAHAHAHA

I should harden my heart and just chuck them.

Done! 3 years ago

I finished this a few weeks back. Now I read each new magazine when it comes in, and they are not stacking up any more. I am shocked to find how much extra time I have on my hands! Maybe time I can spend trying the 8,000 recipes, 500 places to go on vacation, and 200 home remodeling ideas that I clipped out. :)

Have to read them... 3 years ago

I have a pile of about a dozen issues of Dwell, Food & Wine, some travel mags, and a few random things I pulled out of my neighbors’ trash (don’t ask) to read. I tried to leave them all for toilet reading, but I guess I’m not on the toilet long enough. Yikes.

I’m down to a stack of less than 20 magazines. A miracle given the 100s that I had. A few add to the stack each week, but more are going out than are coming in. I llok forward to scratching this one off my list!

I want to get rid of the clutter of heaps of magazines but I don’t want to lose the valuable information from them.
