I want to write words so powerful that they make someone cry, whether it’s prose or poetry. I want to hand someone my work and watch them read it and see their cheeks flush, and see their shoulders shudder, and see the tears fall from their eyes. This would be one of the greatest validations possible for me as a writer.

I cry quite a bit. I guess I’m a sensitive person. And I’ve found that most people think that crying means you are weak and stupid and you should be ashamed. I just want to make someone cry (in a good way), just to show them that sometimes you just have to let it all go and have a good cry. And hey, maybe I’ll cry with them. I just want to show people, or even one person, that it’s okay to cry.
Part of my job as a social worker is often grief counseling. Breaking the dam and having a good cry can be a very good thing for someone who is grieving a loss. It’s quite an honor to be the person who they do that in front of fo the first time.
I don’t know why this was a goal to begin with, but no, it makes you love them more but also somehow like a bad person….even if you know what made them cry was the right thing to do…
