I’ve been slacking too much nowadays, and my skills and tone have completely de-proved. Sometimes, I’m not lazy to practice the Bassoon, it’s that I’m lazy to set up the stand+ Bsn+ reed+ tune up. And after everything, I’ve got to keep the stand, clean the Bsn+ wash the reed. Oh yes, and long tones, though I lack AIR, I find Long tones boring and somehow reluctant to play it:P. But I’m pretty interested in the studies! :D
I agree I’m damn lazy:(.
:O.

So satisfying

As lazy as I am, I LOVE to practice. If everything goes well and I’m focused, I thrive on the feeling of accomplishment I get from getting things done. Playing on my own in an empty house or practice room is great. I don’t practice well with distractions; I have to be in my own little world with just me, my bassoon, and my tuner/metronome. You’d be surprised how evident progress is. I love to hear my sound improve, my intonation become more accurate, my vibrato being (somewhat) controlled, and just being able to express myself through my instrument. It’s something that’s difficult for me to do while in the presence of others. Also, I get satisfaction from knowing that I’ve made progress in the solo or whatever I am working own. It’s cool to work on technical stuff too and increase my ease of playing. Like exercises and long tones and tonguing stuff.
But bad days for me come and go. Some days I’m distracted and can’t focus. There are bad-reed-days and misbehaving-bassoon-days and broken-key-days and I-left-my-music-at-school-days and OHMAEGAWD-I-just-realized-I-have-an-audition-tomorrow-but-haven’t-worked-my-chromatic-scale-in-months-days, but so does everyone else. They only make the good days better.
Private lessons are a must as well!

I just did pit orchestra for the school play, so that was a solid 3 hours of practice a day for a week. I was terrible compared to the professional that came in to play. But if anything, I learned a lot, and hopefully improved. Mostly that my low notes are all really sharp and I need to work on my sound A LOT.
I need a new reed too…all my good ones seem to split or just disappear.

But I take private lessons, so I don’t have much choice. Don’t want her to be like, “Wow, you sound the same as last week. You’ve been practicing, right?”

I really am. But see, the thing is…my reed is not working. No matter how I blow in it, it does not make a sound. I have no idea what the problem is.

2 hours yesterday. I got the score for pit orch, and just read through it. I still have to figure out some tenor clef stuff (I didn’t even know it existed until a week ago) but I’m really excited about doing pit.

I practiced for like an hour today, mostly so I am not rusty when football season ends. I definitely am not, I’m just as good, possibly better than when I played last. Not sure how that happened though… I really need a new reed though.

I have had like no time for practicing this last 2 weeks. School just started, and all the work I had to finish before that. And it’s marching band time, so I’m busy memorizing the flute music.
Maybe I’ll make some time this weekend.
