I still have some lettuce and melod left over from last week. The lettuce still seems fresh and crisp. Advantage of buying local instead of something that sat on a truck and a shelf. I had to throw away a couple of peaches and tomatoes. Fruit flies.
We tried a new recipe to use up the mustard greens. Yuck. No more mustard greens. This week I contacted the veggie guy and asked him to substitute carrots for anything green and leafy.
This weeks box:
1 lb Red Plums
5 bananas (already gone)
1 Melon
1 mango
5 saturn peaches
3/4 lb green beans BC yum
3 very big bunches of carrots BC (1 bunch eaten, delicious)
1 3/4 lb potatoes BC
2 tomatoes BC
Zucchini (green & yellow) BC
HH cucumber BC

to an organic veggie box delivery scheme. I want to be more “in touch” with local, seasonal foods and to support local farmers. I also want to feed my family more organic foods, but costs have been an issue. With the rise in prices at the grocery store, local organic produce doesn’t seem like such a price leap anymore.
Another issue I’ve been mulling is just how much of our food gets wasted. We buy stuff, then let it rot just because we’re not in the mood to eat it. Having a contained, scheduled delivery of food and making a commitment to not waste it is a good start.
So, what’s in the box this week (just delivered):
1 lb Red Plums5 bananas
1 Melon Galia
1 pt strawberries (so, that’s what a pint is:)
4 Nectarines (got 5)
Snow peas (enought for 2-3 meals I think)
Green leaf lettuce (BC)
Yellow carrots BC
1.75 lb white potatoes BC
2 Tomatoes BC (got 3, big ones)
Mustard Greens BC
Green Onions BC
Red Pepper BC
Italian parley BC
I’m already turning up my nose at the mustard greens and lettuce :(
Never seen peppers or carrots like that before.
