Rosetta Stone? 1 week ago

Has anyone had any success with this program? I know it’s crazy expensive so I’m wondering how people who’ve used it feel about it? I really want a comprehensive background in grammar and full understanding of syntax of french, not just “Hi, my name is…” kinds of phrases. I’ll have to do some more investigating I guess…

Fail 3 weeks ago

I found out today that the class I wanted to register for is full…boo hiss. That’s what I get for procrastinating! Oh well, there will be more class offerings in the fall and the fall will be here before I know it!

Doing kind of well... 1 month ago

I’ve been learning/studying some french slang and ways to use the language with different dialects. I learned that you do not always have to use “ne”. For example, you can say…

Je sais pas. Instead of Je ne sais pas, if you want. Also have been listening to some french music for the past few months which have helped very much. Good luck to all. <3

Step One 2 months ago

I’ve enrolled at the local community college and am going to sign up for their summer beginning french class.

I took four years of french from age 13-17 and I sing a lot in french, but my grammar is pretty lousy, so I’m hoping to rebuild my knowledge from the ground up.

Next step: find a french discussion group!

I already speak French at a so/so level, but I would like to become better at this. I will probably take up this language (again) while in college.

parlez-vous francais? 2 months ago

I haven’t spoken French in a few years, and I still remember it quite well, so I think it would be fairly easy to go back to.

Hm. :D

on se parle francais chez nous 2 months ago

I’m Canadian and have been through the mandatory 10 to 12 years of French classes (more, actually). Still, my French is not great. The past few years I’ve been working on it, especially since my husband is fluent in both French and English. I’d like to speak French at home with my kids, and so I’m working hard to make sure that we’re already in the habit of speaking French to each other at least 50% of the time by the time we start having kids.

Several weeks into the course... 3 months ago

...and I find myself unable to do all the coursework in time. I try to sneak in my study books at work, but I’m very busy there, too. After lesson #1 my teacher moved me up to the DALF course, but I’m thinking this may have been a little over-ambitious? Well, we’ll see what happens…

CookieRa What to do, what to do . . . hmmm . .

at the very least, hold a decent conversation 4 months ago

Haven’t really spoken french since i left school over ten years ago apart from those few days in Paris. I would really love to be able to just go off on a big rant or conversation or debate in french . . .

9 years of french immersion 5 months ago

I took 9 years of French Immersion classes but because I slacked off in high school, I haven’t been too confident in saying I am bilingual or fluent in French.

I realize now how much of an asset it is to know the language though so I’m going to start putting it in my resume just so that I can whip back to shape. I’m fairly confident I can get it back to the level that I was before. Ce n’est pas impossible non? Mon grammaire a besoin d’aide mais comment je parle, je pense ce n’est pas trop malhereux.

I’ll start listening to french music again, reading my french bible (the only french book that I don’t really get bored in reading hah maybe because I’m familiar with the stories in english) and simply studying again.

I’m not back to school full-time until September. Instead of taking design studies though, I am considering just taking liberal art courses again just because I think it’d be a nice segue-way when I finally get my Bachelors in Graphic Design.

Anyway… for this goal, since I have this much time between now and September, I may as well brush up. My goal is before I leave for either A or C (hopefully by 2010), I’ll be pretty fluent again in French. I love the language, it’s just one of those things that got sidetrack by high school (I just got lost and slacked off).
