on my back, like from the bottom up to my shoulders.
like a tribal style, might go into tattoo place within the next couple of months and see about prices and styles.
How I did it: My boyfriend had a tattoo done at this really nice tattoo shop and we both chatted for ages with the tattoo artist and I picked out a design, got him to change it so that it was personal to me and then went away for a while to think about it. About a week later I went back and had it done.
Lessons & tips: Make sure you go to a good studio and that it is clean. Also, see if you can watch the tattoo artist doing someone elses tattoo or at least see lots of pictures of ones he or she has done to make sure they are good at their job.
Resources: I looked round loads of different shops until I found a tattoo that I like and also used the internet lots to research.

this yesterday. Having the outline filled in hurt more than expected but it was definitely worth doing and I know I’m going to add to the design later. Will try to add a photo once it’s all healed up and the colours are nice and bright.
4 February – photo added.
My manager agreed to let me use up some hours I’m owed so that I can keep the appointment on Thursday. Only 48 hours to go – again!
Went to get my tattoo completed on Saturday but the tattooist was off work so the appointment was cancelled. Have rearranged for Thursday but now have to arrange the time off work. It’s very quiet at the moment so shouldn’t be a problem and will mean it’s completed for Christmas.
until I’m ‘coloured in’ Really looking forward to it and to showing the finished tattoo off over Christmas. Wow! if this time last year someone had said I’d be getting a tattoo across my back, and that it would be my sixth tattoo, I’d have laughed at them. Just goes to show how much we can change in a year!
Two days ago had the outline done. Surprised that the lines over my spine didn’t hurt as much as expected. Design of flowers, leaves, vine and butterfly goes accross the top of my back. Will have colour added in a few weeks time.
I have just made an appointment to start my back tattoo. It’s bigger than any of my others so it will be done in stages over the winter. It can either stand alone or be the beginning of an even more extensive design of flowers, vine and butterflys. It’s very exciting and I can’t wait to get started on it, unfortunately because of work and other commitments the first appointment isn’t for a coulple of weeks.
I spent about ten years intending to get a tattoo and then finally found the courage to go for it. I only intended getting a small one on my ankle. Now six months later I’ve just had my fifth tattoo and am planning one on my back. I love having them and the only thing I regret is waiting so long to get started.
