hauling bulky objects is ok I decided – like major stockpiling of baking and cleaning supplies – since I don’t yet have one of those xtracycles So I rolled the car out for one shopping trip this weekend, but did otherwise achieve, without deprivation, inconvenience, or even lateness, 72 car free hours.
And I rode my bike to a meeting yesterday and somehow it caused people to admire my shoes. Shoe appreciation = always a plus in my book.

upping this to 3 miles, since that’s what I seem to be doing.

to the puppet show tonight. was contemplating a kind of extreme transfer and decided that riding the bike for 3 miles was vastly preferable. found a new route – wide, smooth, and nearly car-free (which I’m going to post on mapmyride.com). and the whole thing was rather speedy. here in our sun drenched southland summer, riding at night is vastly preferable to daytime.

got in the car

to try to find a bathing suit at the actually really close by store yesterday. It felt totally excessive. And turning over $1 for parking felt like being robbed (though I’m grateful for another disincentive to car-driving).
I had some kind of excuse (in a hurry? contemplating extending the trip to try another place in the event that I couldn’t find what I wanted? or some combo of these), but it really did seem unnecessary at the end of the day.
So at least for the rest of the summer, I see no reason for nearby erranding without my bike.
