beatpoet1973 is writing & recording a new song. Finally
Started reading Kerouac novels when I was a teenager. Reading JK opened the literary world to me. Charles Bukowski, Henry Miller, William Burroughs, etc.etc.
How I did it: I know that so many people rave about Jack but I think he is possibly one of the most egotistical writers I have ever read.
I hated all the characters, they had massive egos and were so incrediably selfish that I wanted to punch them in the head. Hahahaha.
Lessons & tips: If you want to read good travel stories try Bill Bryson, if you want to read a classic try The Count of Monte Christo. If you want to be bored read Jack.

i read my first Kerouac book, On The Road, just a few months back. amazing and hilarious, awe-inspiring, crazy… like nothing i’ve read before. i’ve read a little by Hunter S. Thompson, too… another nutty guy from that gang of beat writers… highly recommended. go for it!
He’ll make you sit and think for a long while.
Then, you’ll want to stand up and get the hell away from wherever you are. Somehow traveling and reading Kerouac has always put me in the same state of mind.

I really wanted to read some Ginsberg and Kearouac ever sonce I read ‘When I was Cool,’ the story of the man that was the first to attend the Jack Kearouac school in Denver (I think?) I have to go find some cheap books on amazon or something.
This Charming Man has been missing in action but is back, Jack!
I got The Dharma Bums for my birthday and havn’t read it yet. I was doing a little reading about Kerouac, about his childhood, upbringing and about his life. It turns out we have quite alot of things in common. I’m looking forward to getting my teeth into his work, especially as most of them are autobiographical.
Next stop after this: On The Road.
