TjsloveMy sister's wedding cake!

If you do your homework and practice plenty and then give yourself at least 3 solid days to work on the cake (more depending on how complicated it is) this goal is quite attainable. One site that I can suggest that was invaluable to me in making my first wedding cake was www.baking911.com. The site was free at the time I was using it, but since then it has become members only (@$25 a year) – that’s how valuable the information is. The woman who run’s the site (Sarah?) will address all your concerns and questions. 3 years ago

rachobuttI did it!

I did this in June, and though it was a lot of work, requiring the help of my mother, it was well worth it and everyone loved it. 4 years ago

amymann.etsy.comGroom's Cake

As I was putting this cake together, I was thinking it was going to be horrible, but after everything was put together and all the trim was added, it came together pretty good. And the groom was SO excited, so I’d say I accomplished my goal! 4 years ago

I did it! It was a LOT of work, and a bit stressful, but I was pretty happy with the whole experience in the end.

I was making a gumpaste bow for the cake topper, and had the loops made and painted with pearl dust. It takes a few days to make a bow topper, because after you make the loops, they have to dry. Then after you paint the loops, they have to dry. Then you have to put the bow together and let it dry. All these things need to dry overnight.

So, the night before the wedding, I was ready to put the bow together. I had the wedding cake done, and my husband was helping me carry it into the office, where we were keeping everything behind closed doors, so the cats wouldn’t mess with anything. But of course, just then, Socks comes running in, jumps onto the stool with the bow loops, knocks them on the floor and they break into tiny pieces. Then I freak out for a while!

David spend the rest of the next day driving all around town and finally driving out of town to get an actual fabric bow to use in place of the gumpaste bow, because there was no way I would have been able to make another one in the amount of time I had.

Other than that catastrophe, everything else went pretty smooth. The cake didn’t turn out as perfect as I would have liked, but the bride and groom were very excited and loved it, which is all that matters.

As you can see, they didn’t want a traditional cake; they wanted something a little “crazier.” 4 years ago

amymann.etsy.comLess than 2 weeks now

I figured out how to make the bow topper, so I am very excited about that! I’m going to try it out this week, and get started on making a TON of icing and getting other stuff ready too. It’s almost time…! 4 years ago

amymann.etsy.comOne month from today!

I’m getting nervous! The part that worries me the most is the bow topper, transportation, and the fact that the layers will be square, which is not a shape I work with much. If I can just get the bow topper figured out, the rest won’t bother me quite as much. 4 years ago

amymann.etsy.comCake details

I met with the couple about their cake. The only guidelines they really gave me were square layers of different heights with no hearts, doves, or anything cheesy. White cake with white icing and shades of blue and green decorations. Other than that, I can do whatever I want. I thought that was kind of nice, but at the same time, that means I have to come up with the design on my own and make it look good and match and everything! That’s a lot of decisions! 5 years ago

amymann.etsy.comAppointment

We’ve been e-mailing and talking about details. Now we have a date set for February 10th to sit down and get all the details worked out! The wedding is June 2nd. Gotta do some practicing before then to make sure the cake is perfect as possible! 5 years ago

amymann.etsy.comI finally have the chance!

I received an e-mail today from the future wife of the guy who set up my cake website for me. She asked me if I would do their wedding and groom’s cake! I’m really excited and REALLY nervous. I really really want to do this, but I just want it to all be perfect and have them love it!

Gotta take deep breathes now! :D 5 years ago
